The Democratic Party’s last-minute efforts to retake control in the upcoming midterm elections were reinforced by a group of progressive women posing completely nude in a bid to encourage people to vote for the party.
Ten women from Vermont participated in the “Grab Them By The Ballot” shoot titled after President Trump’s infamous “grab them by the p----” comment that resurfaced during the 2016 presidential election.
All of the women – who came in all sizes, races, and sexualities – posed with nothing but a ballot placed on their private parts in an homage to the #MeToo movement.
“With the #Metoo and #Wetoo movements and recent confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh there is much at stake in the upcoming elections,” said the group in its mission statement.
“We are here to show the country these recent events have served to strengthen our resolve to bring about change within the system through exercising our right to vote. We aim to encourage voter turnout in the upcoming November elections,” the group added.
Harvard Law-educated attorney Dawn Robertson, who organized the shoot, told The Sun that the project was aimed at encouraging people to vote for Democratic candidates and oppose the Republicans.
“What the Republicans are doing to transgender rights, the way they are attacking women's reproductive rights and the collective trauma means that women are really coming to the forefront now,” she said.
“I hope that the pictures encourage women and marginalized communities to vote. I want them to know that their voice matters.”
A Jewish transgender woman, who goes by the initial Z, took part in the shoot to point out how the transgender community suffered under the rule of Republicans.
“Donald Trump's administration is aggressively trying to define transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming people out of existence,” she told the Daily Mail .
“I'm optimistic that this photoshoot will serve as a starting point for more women to claim their bodies."
The Trump administration recently came under scrutiny amid reports it is considering a roll back of Obama-era recognitions and protections that broadened the definition of gender.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is reportedly looking into establishing the legal definition of sex under Title IX as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth. If the change goes ahead, around 1.5 million Americans who identify as transgender could lose some legal protections.
The Midterm elections will take part next week on Tuesday, with pollsters indicating that Democrats have a considerable chance to retake the House, though Republicans are likely to increase their Senate majority.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, 100 women armed with giant mirrors stood along the Cuyahoga River in Ohio to protest Donald Trump's nomination at the Republican National Convention.
According to Esquire , the women arrived in a vacant lot "between a fire station and a shipping warehouse" close to the convention, aiming their mirrors at the Quicken Loans Arena.
The protest is a part of artist Spencer Tunick's art installation and documentary, Everything She Says Means Everything , which he had been planning since 2013.
"This is for you and this is for our future. We will shine your light and power onto the RNC. We're going to shine the light of women into this arena," Tunick said to the women attending the protest.
The participants arrived at 5:15 a.m. to get ready for the demonstration. According to Esquire , the women were cast from a pool of 1,800 -- all of different shapes, sizes and racial backgrounds. Some women were local to the convention while others flew in from other countries.
The reason for protesting differed from woman to woman, but the central message of feminism and bringing attention to women in this country remained the same for all.
"Donald Trump has said so many outrageous, hateful, inflammatory things. He underestimated his female, Republican vote," said Cathy Scott, a Republican voter, to Esquire . "I don't think he knows there's a black, single, 35-year-old mom, like me, who is listening to what he's saying. I don't think he knows I'm in his political party—and that's unfortunate."
"For me, it's less about Trump and more about creating positive energy around the RNC and to create light where there maybe isn't as much," Sabrina Paskewitz, a student.
"I'm here because I'm a trans woman and we're not supposed to like our bodies and I don't like that," said another protestor, Harmony Moon. "It's going to be great! I'm very antsy; it's like Christmas morning."
Tunick is well known for his nude photography and staged installations. More photos and statements from the women at the demonstration can be found on Tunick's website .

A politician was in the middle of a government conference when she began to strip not realising the camera was still on.
A Mexican senator has issued an apology after she was caught getting topless on a government Zoom conference.
Martha Lucia Micher, 66, was unaware her camera was still on when she started to get changed during the live meeting last week.
On the call were members of the National Regeneration Movement political party, the Bank of Mexico and journalists who were discussing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, an unknown attendee leaked screenshots of Ms Micher’s unfortunate mishap which later did the rounds on social media.
“Yesterday an unfortunate incident occurred during a virtual meeting with fellow senators about the current economic situation in Mexico and strategies to confront the ‘new normal’ over the coming months,” Ms Micher said in an open letter she shared online .
“In one part of the session, without realising and while the camera of my computer was on, I got changed showing my naked torso.
“I carried on participating in the session and thanks to a call from senators Alejandro Armenta Mier and Ovidio Peralta Suarez, I realised my error.”
The senator went on to offer an apology and blamed the mishap on her lack of digital communication expertise.
But Ms Micher, who is also the president of the State Commission of Gender Equality, was also forced to defend her body after cruel comments about her appearance and physique began to circulate online.
“I am Malu Micher, and I am not ashamed to have shown part of my intimacy by accident, because it is exactly the notion that a woman is ‘just her body’ that has allowed and fomented the objectification of women against which I have always fought,” she responded to the criticism.
“I am a woman of 66 years of age who has breastfed four children, three of whom are today professional and responsible men, and I feel proud of my body for having nourished them.”
Ms Micher went on to say she fought for the “left” for almost 40 years and has occupied various public roles in her “fervent commitment” for the defence of human rights.
“I am a woman who is not ashamed of her body, I love it and I take care of it.”
Many of her colleagues and fellow politicians came to her defence.
“In view of the attacks against her, a product of a mishap during a virtual meeting, we endorse our fellowship. Morals and integrity will always be stronger than infamy and assaults,” fellow senator Ricardo Monreal Avila wrote online.
Another senator, Maria Elena Morena posted: “The rubbish stinks in the senate and on social media. Our political and party differences should have limits.”
Fellow party member Martha Tagle also added that she will investigate and sanction those responsible for taking and leaking these photos.
“The violence to which you were subjected cannot go unpunished,” Ms Tagle said.
A boy who captured the world’s attention after being cruelly bullied has landed a major role in an upcoming blockbuster.
Bachelor couple Sam and Snezana Wood have shared a touching photo with Snezana’s daughter as she headed off to her Year 12 formal.
