A woman was told by supermarket by staff she was “basically naked and shouldn’t be there” – but there’s nothing wrong with her outfit.
A London woman has claimed she was almost removed from a supermarket by staff because she was “basically naked and shouldn’t be there”.
The 22-year-old shopper, named Jaiah, was at an Asda store in the city’s east earlier this week when she was approached by an employee.
Sharing footage of their interaction on Twitter , the worker can be heard telling her “we can see your body almost, the manager is coming right now”.
Her outfit? An unzipped jumper, scoop neck top and trackpants – clothes that most people would find completely suitable for grocery shopping.
“So tonight in Asda, Isle of Dogs, I was told by an employee that I wasn’t wearing enough clothes, I wasn’t respecting myself, that I’m basically naked and I shouldn’t be there,” she wrote.
Jaiah described the worker’s actions as “the most disgusting behaviour”, and can be heard telling him that he was inferring she “didn’t respect herself”.
“It’s not because you don’t respect yourself. We have a policy in Asda,” he responded.
The grocery chain’s service team, responding to her claims on the social media platform, suggested that they planned to help make things right following Jaiah’s treatment.
“Thanks for bringing this to our attention,” they wrote.
“This is not a recognised policy at Asda and we are really sorry for the service you received.
“I’ve spoken to the store manager who is addressing this incident and I would be happy to discuss how we can put it right for you?”
A spokesman told the Daily Mail that “as soon as” Asda was made aware of the incident, “we launched an investigation within the store”.
“We have been in contact with Jaiah to explain that this is not our policy and to apologise for the negative experience they had on this occasion,” he added.
Commenters on Jaiah’s post – which has since been made private – were outraged by the treatment Jaiah had been subjected to.
“It would be great if men could stop policing women’s clothing choices,” one wrote, while another said simply, “What the f**k?”
“Is he going to be given training on how he treats people?” questioned another.
A Gold Coast woman was shamed by other shoppers in a similar incident in August, when she wore a denim skirt and crop top to her local Woolworths.
The 21-year-old told news.com.au at the time that fellow shoppers made rude remarks about her outfit choice, adding that the encounter left her feeling “sad and anxious” and that it wasn’t the first time she’d been accosted over her clothing choices.

FENCE FIASCO My neighbour’s put up a new fence on my property & wants ME to pay £2k for it
BUDGET BRIDE I bought £7.42 dresses from H&M and DIY’d them for my bridesmaids
YOU'RE KIDDING I'm a nanny and these red flags mean your child isn't ready for school
ON THE FENCE My neighbour painted their side of the fence without telling me & I’m fuming
WE'VE all grabbed a pair of leggings and T-shirt to head to the supermarket.
But due to this mum's choice of attire, shoppers were left wondering if she'd completely forgotten to put her bottoms on.
The woman caused a stir on social media thanks to her nude leggings - which were such a close match to her actual skin colour that it made it look like she wasn't wearing any trousers, or underwear, at all.
The leggings were also so tight that they left very little to the imagination.
The only way people were able to tell that she was wearing bottoms was due to the lace-up detailing on the ankle of the leggings.
After an image of the mum at the supermarket was shared on TikTok , people were quick to comment on her outfit choice.
"I literally don’t see any pants," one person wrote, before adding: "Update. I see laces on the ankles."
"Thank god for laces," the mum-of-three who shared the image on her TikTok page replied.
"It took me a minute to realise she has leggings on," another person wrote.
"Why would someone wear this???" someone else wrote, while another added: "They’re just so unflattering.
"I can’t believe she looked in the mirror and was like ‘yes these will do’."
Others were quick to comment on the other part of the picture, which appeared to show a grown child sitting in the baby seat of the trolley.
"Why is no one talking about the 186 month old in the cart?" someone else asked.
"Does she have a full mirror at home and get your 39 year old baby out of the cart," another person added.
