Nothing she says would have counted

Two friends fight over a project. One opens with a verdict and a witness: "even she is telling me you're not pulling your weight." Not a complaint. A coalition, the second never opened her mouth.

She answers: "I feel bad." Then: "you know nothing about me."

The reply: "Why?" Then "if you don't tell me, how am I supposed to know?"

That is the move. Not curiosity: a demand for material weighed against a sentence already handed down. Her feeling becomes evidence, the evidence gets discarded. She is not refusing to explain, she is refusing to apply for a hearing.

The verdict never moves. Four messages in, the judgment is identical to the first. Nothing she said would have counted.

What she should have sent:

"You heard me wrong. I asked what was wrong and I didn't want to know. I wanted a reason I could accept or throw out. Nobody can answer that. When you say I know nothing about you, you are right. I have been talking to a version of you I already wrote. The project we settle separately, without her name in the middle. And I don't use her name again to say something that is mine."

Names out. In one of these?
