Note from 2006/7 - Creativity and Productivity

"To produce is mundane, to create - divine."

The transition from Industrial to Post-Industrial is precisely the transition from a society that extolls all that is merely productive, to one that admires all that is creative. This transition seems related to the declining status of the intellectual. The productive Industrial model of society is inherently centralized and the central role of the thinker - the planner - is acknowledged easily. In an increasingly creative society, decentralization is sinking in and people no longer want anyone else telling them what to do.
