Nix Community Survey 2026

Nix Community Survey 2026

Announcements - NixOS Discourse

Hello Nix Community

It is with great excitement that the Marketing Team launches this year’s community survey:

For the first time you can take it in your own language. There are five:

English · Français · Deutsch (Du) · Español (informal) · 简体中文

The picker is at the top of the survey page.

If you speak one of these natively, we could use your help. The English and French versions have been reviewed by people who speak them. German, Spanish and Chinese have not. Those three were machine-translated and no native speaker has checked them yet. If a question reads oddly, or means something different from what it should, reply here or open an issue at GitHub - NixOS/surveys · GitHub and we will fix it while the survey is open.

Your answers help teams and the NixOS Foundation decide what to work on: which platforms to support, where the documentation is not meeting people’s needs, and what keeps people from using Nix more than they do.

As always, the survey is anonymous. We do not ask for your name or your email address, we do not record your IP address, and we do not keep timestamps. Aggregated results are published at NixOS Surveys and announced here.

The survey closes at the end of the year. Please get your answers in before then.

Past years:

What changed since last year

Last year’s thread had a lot of useful criticism in it. Most of it is addressed:

  • There is only one free-text question left, the feedback box at the end.
  • Ranking questions now ask for your top 5 rather than making you order every option, which was painful on mobile.
  • The theme was changed. The low-contrast text that several people could not read has been fixed.
  • There is a back button, so you can return to an earlier page and change an answer.
  • Every question was re-examined against the decision it is supposed to support. Questions were cut, rewritten and added.

Thanks to @malix for reviewing the French translation.

Feedback, as always, is welcome.
