Daughter of Judah P. Benjamin, a major figure in the Confederate government in America and Natalie St. Martin. When she was about 15 her mother took her to Paris with her. In 1874 she married Capt. Henri de Bousignas in France.
Despite her open infidelity, Benjamin continued to support his wife's lavish lifestyle and arrived annually to visit her and Ninette, the daughter she bore soon after the move to France.
