There are 2 “mixtapes” (which were on CD back in the “old days”) by the rap artist YG both of which I owned not only the physical but the digital copies of (multiple times because I had to re-download them numerous times after switching phones etc.) and I swear down that the names of the mixtapes were;
I wanted to hear a few of the classics last night while driving so I looked for the albums on youtube to play YG’s song “i’m good” specifically, and noticed that the album names have now both been changed, to;
-YG “Just re’d-up” -YG “Just re’d-up 2”
which even if you aren’t familiar with the slang of northern and southern California, still doesn’t make any sense if you think of the verbiage.
NO ONE from california would say “oh I just re’d up so slide through” IF ANYTHING they MIGHT say “oh I just re-up’d so slide through” but even that would sound super off putting and strange and no one would be sliding anywhere because they would definitely get the feeling that this hypothetical example sentence speaker was most likely an undercover or a mark based on the weird ass way they are failing to use the slang.
and aside from all of this, this is just one of those anchor effects for me now because I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that it was most definitely “THE RE-UP”
blows my mind, and of course there are no remnants that I can find on good ole’ reality gobbling google...
I have text a few friends to see if they still have the physical copies of the albums by chance so I will be sure to keep you updated.
Doesn’t it seem to make sense in past tense ? Just re’d up,
I don’t think re is a verb. or is it?
