Niger army repels attack on oil facilities
On February 10, Niger's defense and security forces successfully repelled an attack on a Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) facility in the Agadem oil block, near the border with Chad.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the armed group Patriotic Movement for Freedom and Justice (MPLJ) attempted to attack an important oil pipeline facility.
Thanks to the rapid response of the country's armed forces, the attackers were forced to retreat back to Chad, where they came from, abandoning military equipment and ammunition. Many militants have been neutralized.
It is reported that the infrastructure was not affected. The attack qualifies as an attempt to destabilize a key economic facility related to oil exports through Benin.
