What I love about Nico’s portrayal of depression is how raw and accurate is. We know for a fact that most demigods will have some kind of mental health problem and that’s not something that should be forgotten. But a lot of them are strong enough to get on with it and push through. Nico isn’t like that. Nico doesn’t have the support system that everyone else has. Nico very nearly gives up, many times. And that is what depression is. You can’t always fight it, you can’t always ward it off. Sometimes its hard enough just existing.

It's an intuitive solution to a common problem facing artists. It's good to acknowledge the first to publish, but not everyone can know if their idea was the first of it's kind or not. (The extreme of this is seen with Software Patents, where companies rush to patent trivial non-novel techniques first, and sue if anyone uses it)
