Nick Pope Explains Madness After His Name Trended Worldwide


Nick Pope, Newcastle goalkeeper, has expressed his opinion on the craziness that Toon fans caused after they hijacked an internet poll that saw England man the top spot on Twitter.

Toon Polls, a Newcastle fan account, took part in to a Burger King online poll asking for opinions on gherkins as well as tomatoes.

The account jokedly replied to the tweet "Nick Pope" and created a viral trend that saw Easyjet, McDonalds and Amazon all tweet the name of the Magpie's summer ad.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the 30-year old explained how he was able to spot the bizarre incident and the reasons for his phone being inundated with notifications.

"It was a bizarre situation to land to. I looked at my phone and was forced to blink a few times and pinch myself.' The Magpies stopper said,

Pope's name was in the top ten popular topic in the UK, and number 10 globally. McDonalds offered a free breakfast to Toon Polls if the goalie could play clean against Brighton the following day. This was a gesture he made following Newcastle's draw without goals at The Amex Stadium.
