Nick Petrangeo's Poker GO Tour success streak continued Monday with a win in the 2022 Poker GO Cup's Event #5: $25,000 No Limit Hold. Petrangeo won $369,000 in prize money for first place in the 41 entry field.
Petrangelo had a tremendous 'millions of stairs' series that cashed in four times more than $1800,000 in total, including two wins in January. He is now the first player to score more than 1,000 points on the PGT leaderboard in 2022. Petrangelo entered the event #5 of the Poker GO Cup with 845 PGT leaderboard points. He added 221 points with Monday's victory, totaling 1,066 points.
"Everything has been going really well since September," Petrangelo said. "It went up and down a little bit, but almost everything has been going well since then. I'm running well, all-in and holding hands at the right time. Sometimes I avoid bubbles when I have a lot of chips and two hands are missing, but when I go deep and everything goes well, it was the opposite."
Since September 2021, Petrangelo has won nearly $5,600,000 in live tournaments. He scored two points above $1,000,000, won five times, and reached head-up play nine times.
"Sometimes when everything goes in your favor you think every heroic request will be right, and all the big bravado will be overcome, and you'll be a little unaffordable - a little 'winner's bias,'" Petrangelo said. "It's important to stay focused and try to play well."
After winning at PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas on Monday, many players on the first day of Event #6 took time to celebrate Petrangeo's victory. According to Petrangeo, it means the most, the respect of his colleagues, the people who compete every day in the high-stakes PGT event.
"It's great," said Petrangelo. "I've always told us that the biggest measure is not necessarily your outcome, but how the community perceives you. We have a great community here with everyone who does these things all the time. It's great, it's like a home game. We all like each other. At this point it's like being a colleague. No one wants anyone's bad luck. Everyone is rooting for everyone. Some guys heat up, and you're just that guy at that point."
