Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens will take on the Buffalo Bills in Divisional Round of the ... [+] 2021 NFL Playoffs on Saturday night.
The Buffalo Bills take on the Baltimore Ravens in the 2021 NFL Playoffs this evening, an exciting contest that appears to be one of the most evenly matched on the board in the Divisional Round. Both teams won their respective Wild Card weekend game to get here, with No. 2 Buffalo staving off an upset attempt by the No. 7 Indianapolis Colts and the No. 5 Ravens going on the road and getting it done against the No. 4 Tennessee Titans. Now that the next stage of the 2021 NFL Playoff bracket is upon us, oddsmakers are giving a slight edge to the Bills to be the side that reaches the AFC Championship Game once the dust settles in Orchard Park, New York tonight.
Buffalo will try to keep its resurgent campaign going—a dream year in which the franchise has already won its first AFC East crown and picked up its first playoff victory since the 1995 season—in front of the home crowd on Saturday night, but it won’t come easy against a red-hot Baltimore opponent that has already avenged last year’s embarrassing Divisional Round loss and is hungry to get back to the conference championship after coming up short every season since a Super Bowl run in 2013. Will the Bills return to the AFC Championship for the first time in 27 years, or will the Ravens play spoiler as a slight road underdog? Those looks for answers have come to the right place, as pro handicapper Jon Price of SportsInformationTraders.com sent along his predictions against the spread for this thrilling postseason showdown.

Buffalo vs. Baltimore Injury Report
Kurt Haumesser tweeted the final injury reports for both the Ravens and Bills after Thursday practices:
NFL Next Gen Stats revealed that the Ravens have been dominant running the ball when the box isn’t stacked, while the Bills have struggled to defend the rush with no more than six defenders in it:
Buffalo opened as a 2.5-point favorite in the Divisional Round and that point spread has remained relatively stable since it was first announced. Some early Bills action pushed the betting line to BUF -3 for a short while, but buyback on the Ravens has brought the odds back to their initial mark. There is a slight discrepancy in how the public and sharps are wagering on this contest, as 54% of all bets made against the spread are on the home team, but 52% of the money risked is supporting the visitors. The matchup’s total—which initially went up on the board at 49 points—isn’t as polarizing, as both the number of tickets and handle are showing a clear preference for the over. As of Saturday morning, 69% of the betting slips and 61% of the cash are rooting for a high-scoring affair, a trend that has caused most shops to adjust the line up to 49.5 points.
Those that prefer to wager without a spread can find moneyline odds of -145 for the Bills and +125 on the Ravens. This means that one would need to risk $1.45 to return $1 on Buffalo advancing past the Divisional Round regardless of the margin of victory, while Baltimore backers would net $1.25 for each $1 staked on an outright upset. The moneyline can be used to calculate the percent chance sportsbooks are inferring on each outcome, with the odds translating to a 59% implied probability for the Bills and a 44% chance for the Ravens to reach the AFC Championship Game.
The Bills were tied with the Miami Dolphins for the best cover percentage during the 2020 season, going 11-5 against the spread, but did fail to beat the number in the Wild Card. The Ravens were a profitable squad this year, going 10-6 ATS in the regular season and are 1-0 ATS so far in the playoffs. Both sides come into the Divisional Round with identical 64.7% cover rates across 17 total games.
Baltimore has won and covered in each of the last three head-to-head meetings with Buffalo and is 6-3 SU and ATS over the last nine matchups dating back to the 1999 campaign.
The total has gone under in three of the last four and seven of the last nine games between the Ravens and Bills, including the most recent contest in which Baltimore won by a 24-17 margin—the total closed at 44 points—and covered as 6.5-point road chalk in December 2019.
Buffalo has been unstoppable as a home favorite this year, going a perfect 6-0 SU—the only team to play more than three games as home chalk and not lose in 2020—and 4-2 ATS in that spot across both the regular season and playoffs. Baltimore went 1-1 SU and 2-0 ATS as a road underdog in the same span.
The Bills have been involved in many high-scoring games this year, with a 10-5-1 regular season record and 1-0-0 playoff record towards the over combining for a 68.8% over rate that is higher than all but two teams in the league. The Ravens have trended towards the under more often during the 2020 campaign, going 7-9 in the regular season and 0-1 in the postseason for a 41.2% over rate, a percentage that rates above just five squads.
Buffalo is one of the hottest teams in the league at this juncture, having won seven straight and 10 of its last 11 games leading up to a Divisional Round clash with the Ravens. Last week’s ATS loss to Indianapolis was the first time Buffalo failed to cover since Week 8. Baltimore is also on fire right now, winning six consecutive contests and covering in each of them. One would have to go back to Week 10 to find the last time the Ravens failed to beat the number.

After a season filled with COVID-19 outbreaks, contact tracing and a multitude of cancelations and postponements, 14 teams are headed to the NFL playoffs.
For the first time in 30 years, the league changed its playoff format due to a new collective bargaining agreement. The alterations to the new expanded playoffs include more participants, new first-round bye rules and a different schedule.
Here's how the new NFL postseason will work:
The league increased the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams to feature seven teams per conference. There will still be four division winners. However, an extra wild-card team has been added in the NFC and AFC.
Only the No. 1 seeds in each conference—the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers—will have first-round byes.
How Will Postseason Teams be Seeded?
The seeding system remained largely unaltered. The four division winners in the two conferences secured the top four seeds, regardless of their regular season record.
This explains why the Washington Football Team is ranked as the No. 4 seed in NFC despite going 7-9.
The reigning Super Bowl champions in Kansas City hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC after winning the West with an NFL-best 14-2 record. The Bills, seeking their first playoff victory since the 1995 season, are ranked No. 2, while the Steelers hold the No. 3 seed.
The Packers secured the NFC's No. 1 seed with their 13-3 record. The Saints and the Seahawks clinched No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, for the NFC.
The three wild card teams in the two conferences snagged the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds based on their regular season record.
How Many Rounds Are in the New Format?
The expanded playoffs will feature four rounds: Super Wild Card Weekend, Divisional round, Championship round and Super Bowl LV. That's no different than the old format.
The primary difference is that Wild Card Weekend will feature six games instead of four.
Here is the schedule for Super Wild Card Weekend:
The Divisional round will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17, and will feature four games, including postseason debuts for the Chiefs and Packers due to their bye week.
The Championship round is slated for Sunday, Jan. 24 with two games: the NFC Championship at 3:05 p.m. ET and the AFC Championship at 6:40 p.m. ET.
Super Bowl LV is scheduled for Sun. Feb. 7 in Tampa at 6:30 p.m. ET.
