With so many unknowns heading into the 2021 NFL season, every opening weekend game features a betting line of fewer than eight points. Three teams are favored by a touchdown, and four underdogs are getting less than a field goal.
Here are picks against the spread for every game in Week 1, as well as updated betting odds. Betting lines come from FanDuel Sportsbook .
Dallas Cowboys (+7.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are going to score a ton of points against one of the league’s worst defenses. Tampa Bay brings back every starter from a team that averaged 33.9 points as it ended last season with eight straight wins. Cowboys guard Zack Martin is sidelined with COVID-19. The Super Bowl champs might not have much trouble in the opener.
Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) at Houston Texans
If there’s any time to bet on the Texans, it’s when they’re playing at home against a quarterback and head coach who are making their NFL regular-season debuts. Jacksonville last won a road game in 2019. The Jaguars’ only victory last season came in Week 1 when they stunned the Colts. Maybe Houston, which is projected to be the NFL’s worst team , can pull off a Week 1 upset of their own and catch Jacksonville by surprise.
Pittsburgh Steelers (+6.5) at Buffalo Bills
The Steelers are in the conversation for having the AFC’s best defense. Buffalo beat Pittsburgh 26-15 last year, but Josh Allen was limited to a 77.5 passer rating and one of the Bills touchdowns came off a pick-six. The Steelers’ commitment to the run game might not be a problem against a poor Buffalo rush defense.
San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) at Detroit Lions
This has the makings of being the biggest Week 1 blowout. San Francisco is healthy going into Sunday and could have its way with a potentially awful Detroit defense. Jared Goff underperformed against the 49ers in the last couple of seasons with the Rams. Now, the Lions quarterback might have the NFL’s worst group of receivers.
New York Jets (+5) at Carolina Panthers
Sam Darnold didn’t have much success with the Jets, and he could struggle plenty with the Panthers, as well. Carolina is coming off two straight 5-11 seasons with major questions about their quarterback and offensive line. This is among the most intriguing quarterback matchups, as Zach Wilson makes his debut.
Philadelphia Eagles (+3.5) at Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons’ offense could be one of the NFL’s best with Arthur Smith leading the way and Kyle Pitts at tight end. Atlanta’s defense, however, could give Philadelphia a chance to potentially steal this one. Expect a tighter-than-expected outcome.
Seattle Seahawks (-2.5) at Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis will have trouble keeping up with one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. Russell Wilson is a legitimate MVP candidate with a pair of receivers that are better than most around the league. The Colts won’t have leading receiver T.Y. Hilton. It’s still unknown if Carson Wentz, who is coming foot surgery, can bounce back from a disappointing 2020 season.
Arizona Cardinals (+3) at Tennessee Titans
This might end up being the best game on the Week 1 schedule. Tennessee can score with anyone. Kyler Murray might have some highlight-reel plays against a poor Titans’ defense. Tennessee has the edge at home, where the team is averaging 32.4 points over its last 12 games.
Minnesota Vikings (-3) at Cincinnati Bengals
If Minnesota’s shaky offensive line can hold its own against a mediocre Cincinnati front-seven, this game shouldn’t be particularly close. The Vikings return all the key components from last year’s top-five offense. Joe Burrow could struggle to find his footing in his first NFL game in 10 months against an improved Minnesota defense.
Los Angeles Chargers (-1) at Washington Football Team
Coming off his outstanding rookie season, Justin Herbert will be tested right away in year No. 2. The Chargers have to play an early-afternoon game on the other side of the country against a defense that can get after the quarterback better than almost any other unit in the NFL. Ryan Fitzpatrick might put up some big numbers to start the season before the wheels eventually fall off.
Denver Broncos (-2.5) at New York Giants
The Broncos haven’t proven enough to be decisive road favorites on the East coast. New York’s defense could make things difficult for Teddy Bridgewater in his first start with Denver. Saquon Barkley is likely to suit up for the Giants for the first time in a year.
Green Bay Packers (-4) at New Orleans Saints
The line has moved one point in favor of Green Bay since the game was moved from New Orleans to Jacksonville. Hurricane Ida has displaced the Saints, forcing the team to practice in Dallas. A little preseason success doesn’t mean Jameis Winston has become a different quarterback, and his lack of proven receivers is going to be an issue. Aaron Rodgers will play well against a defense that lost several starters in the offseason.
Cleveland Browns (+6.5) at Kansas City Chiefs
It’s hard to bet against the Chiefs when they are laying less than a touchdown at home, even against a potential Super Bowl contender in the Browns. Kansas City’s rebuilt offensive line should be able to hold up against Myles Garrett and Co. In all three of his season openers, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to at least 34 points and a double-digit win.
Miami Dolphins (+3) at New England Patriots
Bill Belichick is a master at confusing young quarterbacks. Tua Tagovailoa was held to 145 yards and no touchdowns in his one start against the Patriots as a rookie. New England’s defense will be much improved this season. The return of fans means that the Patriots, once again, have a notable home-field advantage.
Chicago Bears (+7.5) at Los Angeles Rams
In each of the last three seasons, this matchup has been one of the ugliest games in the NFL. The three contests have featured an average of just 26.3 total points. With another low-scoring affair likely on the way, grabbing the seven points is the best bet.
Baltimore Ravens (-4.5) at Las Vegas Raiders
It could be a very long season for the Raiders. Las Vegas’ defense didn’t get any better in the offseason. Lamar Jackson could have his way with the Raiders Monday night. When Derek Carr last faced Baltimore’s defense in 2018, he completed fewer than half his passes for less than 200 yards.

After what felt like an eternity, real NFL football will grace our television sets in less than 24 hours. With a full 16-game slate this week, here are our NFL Week 1 picks and predictions against the spread for each matchup. We found the NFL Week 1 odds at Sports Betting Dime and are accurate as of September 8 at 9 AM ET.
After a few months off, there is a fervor around the return of the NFL. With sports betting becoming more and more widespread and legal across the United States, there has never been as much discussion around NFL picks, predictions, and odds. The NFL has even decided to openly embrace the world of gambling, with odds being added to their ticker this year and dedicated betting segments. Below, you can see the live lines at some of the most respected sportsbooks across the country.
Here are the Week 1 betting lines and NFL odds for Thursday’s game.
We touched on how much intrigue surrounded the return of the NFL this year — and in terms of questions and storylines — there might not have been a better matchup to kick off the regular season. The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers. Tom Brady and the Bucs are laying 7.5 at home.
Now, a lot of pundits have already decided that the Cowboys have little chance against a stacked Tampa Bay team that is basically returning all of their players from 2020.
That might be the case, but Dallas shouldn’t be the pushover it was last year. They now have one of the deepest linebacker units in the NFL and will see the return of their franchise QB in Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys have always played Tampa Bay close, leading the all-time series 13-4. These are two very different teams in 2021, but I think Dallas keeps it close and is able to eke out a close win under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Cowboys 34, Tampa Bay 31
Here are the NFL Week 1 betting lines, predictions, and odds for Sunday’s games.
These two teams have significant questions surrounding them. The Eagles are heading into the season with Jalen Hurts under center and Gardner Minshew as the QB3 behind Joe Flacco. Atlanta will look completely different offensively after trading WR Julio Jones in the offseason and drafting TE Kyle Pitts.
Without knowing what these teams will look like in 2021, I am taking the squad with fewer questions surrounding them. Matt Ryan and the Falcons’ offense should be able to score enough to win this one.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Falcons 24, Eagles 14
The Buffalo Bills are entering the season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders for the first time in decades. With Josh Allen continuing to take leaps forward in his progression as a franchise QB, the hype makes sense. The Steelers have lost key weapons on their offensive line, and their QB is now one year older. The Bills start their Super Bowl run with a win at home.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Bills 28, Steelers 23
Joe Burrow returns from a serious leg injury to take on the Vikings at home. Cincinnati’s biggest issue last year was their offensive line. Luckily, they’re playing the team with the worst pass rush from 2020. The Bengals might not be perfect, but I have faith Burrow will be able to throw all over this defense with no pressure coming his way — outside of a healthy Danielle Hunter, that is.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Bengals 24, Vikings 21
The 49ers are laying a touchdown on the road against the Detroit Lions. The Lions are in the talks for the worst team in the NFL, with Jared Goff now at the helm. I don’t think they are going to be as bad as everyone thinks, and I don’t like laying a TD on the road with any team. Take the Lions to cover.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: 49ers 21, Lions 16
The Tennessee Titans are also competing to be one of the best teams in the NFL. Their offense, on paper, is one of the best in the league with Derrick Henry, A.J. Brown, and now Julio Jones. If Ryan Tannehill remains healthy, the Titans will be one of the best teams in the league.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Titans 28, Cardinals 20
There are way too many questions surrounding the Colts and who will be healthy for this one. Is Carson Wentz going to play? Is he fully healthy at this point? Just take Russell Wilson and trust Seattle in this one.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Seahawks 23, Colts 17
This is one of the most intriguing matchups of Week 1. Making a pick or prediction for this one is tough, with one of the most electric offenses in the league playing one of the best defenses. Washington being at home gives them the edge here.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Washington 20, Chargers 19
This is an interesting one. Sam Darnold will be playing his former team as the new QB under center for the Panthers. Zach Wilson is now the guy in New York and has a new head coach with him. Will that be enough for him to win his first NFL game on the road? Probably not. Take Matt Rhule and the experience of the Panthers to get this win.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Panthers 24, Jets 17
States: AZ, CO, PA, NJ, IN, IL, IA, MI, VA, TN, WV
This is probably one of the worst matchups of Week 1. With so many questions surrounding these two squads, any sort of NFL pick or prediction would be a complete guess. Trevor Lawrence is now the undisputed QB1 in Jacksonville after they traded away Minshew to the Eagles. The Texans are heading into the game with Tyrod Taylor at QB with the Deshaun Watson saga still surrounding the team. Flip a coin.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Jaguars 17, Texans 14
In another marquee matchup in Week 1, the Browns play the Super Bowl losers from last year in the Kansas City Chiefs. The Browns have one of the best defenses in the league right now, and the Chiefs one of the best offenses. Which will prevail in this one?
For my NFL picks and predictions, I am going with offense over defense. I do think that the Browns are playoff contenders — potentially even Super Bowl contenders — but the Chiefs and Mahomes are hard to bet against. This will be a high-scoring affair, with the Chiefs coming out on top.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Chiefs 30, Browns 27
This matchup was already intriguing when it was a simple AFC East showdown. However, with the Patriots deciding to cut Cam Newton, this game became even more exciting. Now, we get to see two former Alabama QBs square off when Tua Tagovailoa takes on Mac Jones.
Tua had an up-and-down first season with Miami but comes into this game the clear QB1. Jones has looked good in preseason, but this will be his first real NFL action. Miami’s defense is an elite unit, and I expect them to cause issues for Jones, who might have some first-game jitters to get over.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Dolphins 24, Patriots 20
Time and Channel: 4:25 PM ET, Local
The Packers and Saints game is going to be a fireworks show. Both offenses should be able to exploit their opponent’s weak secondaries and put up points. With Jameis Winston at QB, the Saints should be able to move the ball downfield. Aaron Rodgers will look to prove that he still deserves to be in the best QB in the league discussion . This one should be fun.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Packers 34, Saints 27
Unfairly, this game could end up being rather left out of the limelight alongside the other three on this slate. The Broncos named Teddy Bridgewater as the starter , and he is the ideal QB for this talented roster. The Giants made some big moves in the offseason, but I’m not sure it leads to anything in Week 1.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Broncos 20, Giants 17
States: AZ, PA, NJ, IA, IL, CO, IN, TN, VA, WV, MI
Two exceptional defenses will be showcased during the Bears and Rams Sunday Night Football game. Look for a low-scoring game where the Rams come out on top.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Rams 21, Bears 10
Here are the NFL Week 1 betting lines, predictions, and odds for Monday’s game.
To finish off the Week 1 slate of games, the Ravens take on the Raiders. On paper, the Ravens are the better team here, but I don’t think the Raiders’ home-field advantage is being given enough credit. Las Vegas will have a full house for the first time ever in their new stadium, and the crowd should give the Raiders the boost they need to get the win here.
NFL Week 1 Picks and Predictions: Raiders 27, Ravens 20
