A heavy wet snow has been falling steadily throughout the day here in town, but early voting has been even brisker!
Don’t forget, if you haven’t made it to the polls just yet, you can still vote early in person at City Hall on Monday and at your designated polling location on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3rd from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Mail ballots will also be accepted through Election Day (just be sure to deposit your ballot directly to the City’s Official Mail Ballot Dropbox outside City Hall on Broadway by 8 p.m. Tuesday) #firstsnow
As a reminder, City Hall and offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15th in observance of Presidents Day.
The Waste Management Transfer Station will be open and Monday through Friday collection services will not be affected.
Have you ever wondered what a water main break looks like?
This is the section of pipe that failed near the intersection of Gould and Warner Streets earlier this week, prompting a precautionary boil water advisory for the area.
As is too often the case, the timing of the failure came when conditions were at their most challenging, with City crews battling subfreezing temperatures and upwards of 6 inches of snow and ice still on the ground.
Regardless, our teams worked nonstop throughout the day and into the overnight hours to repair the break, restore service, and stave off any potential adverse impact to the City's water quality.
You probably see our Utilities and Public Services crews around town on a regular basis as they tend to infrastructure needs that range from the large to the small. This week's water main break was one of those larger tasks which affected a large swath of the City and a portion of Middletown.
Most of the time, municipal infrastructure work tends to go unnoticed and the people who keep it running are left unsung. So the next time you see one of their trucks out on the road, please be sure to give a wave or a smile in recognition of a job well done.
