What Data Science studies Every day, mankind generates approximately 2.5 quintillion bytes of different data. They are created literally every time you click and scroll through the page, not to mention viewing videos and photos on online services and social networks. The science of data began long before it surpassed all conceivable predictions. The countdown has been held since 1966, when the Committee on Data for Science and Technology — CODATA — appeared in the world. It was established within the framework of the International Council for Science, which aimed at collecting, evaluating, storing and retrieving critical data for scientific and technological purposes. The committee is composed of scientists, professors of major universities and representatives of academies of sciences from several countries, including Russia. The term Data Science came into use in the mid-1970s with the submission of the Danish computer scientist Peter Naur.
