Hot off the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, there's confirmation of a new AAA TMNT game in 2023.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has had a resurgent year in the video game industry. The release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was lauded as a return to the beloved era of TMNT arcade games. That's now been followed up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection , a bundle of those classic TMNT arcade games, and many other favorites. It seems 2023 is looking bright for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , too, as a new game has now been confirmed for next year.
The announcement, if it can be called that, is found in the September issue of Toy World. In an official update from Paramount, the owner of Nickelodeon and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license, there are big plans for TMNT in 2023. Those plans include a brand-new AAA video game to be released. It won't just be a new announcement, but the new TMNT game is tentatively planned to launch next year.
No further details are provided regarding next year's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project. There's no confirmation of the game's developer, what kind of game it will be, or even what version of the TMNT the game will be based on. All that's available to speculate over is what describing the new game as AAA could mean. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge could be described as AAA by some, after all. If not, then it's exciting to consider what a AAA TMNT game could look like.
2023 will also see the release of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will release in theaters on August 4, 2023. It's an animated film produced by Seth Rogan and directed by the co-director of The Mitchells vs. the Machines . It's expected to have a fun new style and direction for the turtles, so anticipation for the film is high.
It's possible that the new AAA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is going to be based on the upcoming film. It's common for TMNT TV shows and movies to spin off video games, after all. A brawler arcade game or perhaps a 3D action-adventure title related to the new movie would be clever cross-promotion.
For the time being, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans will just have to wait for more information regarding the in-development project to be shared. Given the odd source for the announcement, it's unclear when more details will be shared. It wouldn't be surprising if it's 2023 before the game is fully confirmed and unveiled.
A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is currently in development.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an American media franchise created by the comic book artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird . It follows Leonardo , Michelangelo , Donatello and Raphael , four anthropomorphic turtle brothers (named after Italian Renaissance artists) trained in ninjutsu who fight evil in New York City. Supporting characters include the turtles' rat sensei Splinter , their human friends April O'Neil and Casey Jones , and enemies such as Baxter Stockman , Krang , and their archenemy , the Shredder .

The franchise began as a comic book, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , which Eastman and Laird conceived as a parody of elements popular in superhero comics at the time. The first issue was published in 1984 by Eastman and Laird's company Mirage Studios and was a surprise success. In 1987, Eastman and Laird licensed the characters to Playmates Toys , which developed a line of Turtles action figures . About US$1.1 billion of Turtles toys were sold between 1988 and 1992, making them the third-bestselling toy figures ever at the time.

The action figures were promoted with an animated series , which premiered in 1987 and ran for almost a decade. In some European regions, the word "ninja" in the name was replaced with "hero" for its violent connotations. Three live-action films were released; the first became the highest-grossing independent film up t
