Transgender patients often ask what they can expect to feel and even see with a speculum after their Male to Female Genital Reconstruction Surgery . The answer: Pink, Moist, Slick. These are the magical changes of the vaginal lining following transgender surgery.
The vaginal lining takes on natural characteristics as a result of the vaginal dilation process. We urge our post-op patients to perform their dilation and douching daily for a few months to start seeing results. The pictures show the neo-mucosa of the transgender surgery vaginal lining by speculum exam at only four months post-op after full vaginal tract creation.
Often times, even gynecologists cannot tell the difference between the trans woman’s vaginal lining and cis-gender mucosa. Dr. MacPhee has had several patients heal and then work with gynecologists who have commented as such.
We always recommend the use of lubrication jelly for any type of penetration. However, the patient will also have light moisture or mucus produced from their new mucosal lining.
