There’s a new “naked” dress in town — and instead of the see-through, sparkly styles we’ve seen on red carpets for years, this season’s take is completely covered up.
In recent weeks, celebrities including Bella Thorne , “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Marlo Hampton and Kylie Jenner have turned heads in trompe l’oeil looks screened with photorealistic prints of the nude female form.
Designer Jean Paul Gaultier, who pioneered the nearly-naked look in the ’90s, recently teamed up with stylist Lotta Volkova on a cheeky collaboration that’s got Jenner , Hampton and Tove Lo “freeing the nipple” in a whole new way.
Syndical Chamber’s Sergio Castaño Peña is leading the trend as well, having outfitted Thorne, Iggy Azalea , Demi Lovato and Cardi B in his curve-enhancing creations.
To be sure, this faux flesh-flashing fad isn’t for the faint of heart — but I had to know if a non-famous person could pull off one of these sexy styles in public, so I ordered a $12 Shein version that bore a striking resemblance to a dress I’d spotted on SZA , hit the streets of uptown NYC and hoped for the best.
Essentially a skintight, slightly more stylish version of those “bikini body” T-shirts you might find at beachside souvenir shops, my discount dress definitely earned a few double takes. As I strutted past the long line outside the Museum of Natural History, several men, women and kids shot me quizzical stares.
And one construction worker practically gave himself whiplash checking out the garment’s backside — printed with the image of a shapely bare booty seemingly modeled after a Kardashian’s — as I crossed the street. Who needs a BBL when you can fake it with fashion?
It probably helped that the boobs, crotch and butt screened across the dress more or less matched up with my own bits; on Shein’s website, one petite shopper complained that the design’s “titties were literally near [her] belly button,” and the “vagina was touching [her] knees,” calling the effect “just so embarrassing and not cute.”
Still, I was somewhat surprised more people didn’t stop and stare at my optical illusion of an outfit; while a few folks sneaked peeks on the subway, most just had their faces buried in their phones. I guess it’s true what they say: New Yorkers really have seen it all.
Or perhaps it’s just that the trompe l’oeil naked dress isn’t quite as shocking as its truly nude predecessor; I certainly felt more confident out and about in mine than I would have in something seriously sheer.
Maybe I’ll even try it out again for my next night out — after all, wearing a dress screen-printed with a perfect body is definitely easier than working out.

Just call him Detective STUDler! Christopher Meloni showed off his hot body as he stripped down to do exercises on Peloton's app.
Christopher Meloni wasn’t lying when he said he likes to work out naked . The 61-year-old actor completely removed his clothes except for a pair of white socks for a new Peloton video advertisement that was released on July 14. Chris flaunted his physique figure , including his impressive abs, as he worked out his entire body using Peloton’s exercise app. “Apparently, the way I work out is strange,” a naked Chris said as he lifted weights. “Honestly, I don’t get it. I don’t think using the Peloton app is strange at all.”
The Law & Order: SVU star praised Peloton’s “amazing” app and explained how it gets him “motivated to do lots of different workouts.” Those workouts, which Chris tried out fully nude, include yoga, cardio, and meditation. He even did some strength training inside, during which he flashed his bare butt at the camera. Chris also went for a run in the park and his naked body caught a dog’s attention.
After finishing his workouts, Chris stretched out his nude body and a voiceover hilariously poked fun at his lack of clothing. “In the Peloton community, users are represented by two separate, yet equally motivated groups Those who wear pants… and Christopher Meloni,” the voiceover said.

In May, Chris told People at the 2022 NBCUniversal Upfronts that he works out naked in his home gym. “And I don’t black out the window. And I’m okay with that,” he revealed. The actor confessed that his wife, Sherman Williams , is not too pleased about the habit, though. As for why he prefers working out at home alone, Chris explained, “People don’t put the weights away, and I’m OCD. I’m like, how hard is it [to put them away]?”
Chris consistently works out his entire body including his butt, which was the center of attention in April 2021 after a fan snapped a photo of him filming Law & Order in New York City. The photo made Chris look like he had quite a lot of junk in the trunk. Months later, he reflected on the attention with humor. “I catch flies with my ass cheeks, like a Venus flytrap,” he joked to Men’s Health during his cover interview, where he also admitted that he was proud to be labeled a “zaddy.”

The model has an archive of Instagram photos that prove age is just a number and angles are everything. Her most recent? A bathroom butt selfie (AKA a "belfie") she snapped during a trip to Rome . "My hotel Eden in Rome, has, besides a beautiful room I'm staying in, this pretty happening bathroom. After work and a leisurely bath, I was bored, which led to this celebration of narcissism, the naked selfie," she captioned the risqué photo .
In 2019, the Three's Company star famously posed topless in a sultry Instagram photo shot by her husband of 42 years, Alan Hamel.
"We were walking on the hillside road [on her property] and I think it was like June. It was hot and dry," she later explained. "I said, 'Oh my god, the foliage here is the same color as my hair.' Because, by that time, all the weeds and bushes had turned yellow."
"So I got down and said, 'Take a picture of me. The weeds will look like my hair,'" Somers said. "I took my top down because I was with my husband, and he took that great picture."

She was also photographed waiting on the platform using only a bag to cover herself.
The Oscar winner has posted several jaw-dropping Instagram photos lately, including this topless shot snapped from behind and appropriately captioned, "naked truth…" Berry also went braless during a recent campaign shoot for her lifestyle and wellness brand Re-spin.
The actress often flaunts her impressive figure on Instagram in tiny bikinis, figure-hugging silhouettes and dresses with plunging necklines. In March, the bombshell shared a photo of herself sitting on a bed of hay totally nude...beauty is pain, right?
