The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel is now open as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital city.

The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer from the Kerem junction.

Inauguration of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) and hundreds more cyclists.

Jerusalem was a sought-after tourist destination because of its rich history. Elkin said that apart from its historical treasures and modern amenities, tourism has also been integrated into Jerusalem's city. The project was funded by Elkin's ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the goal of altering the way of transportation in Jerusalem. Elkin said that the new tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike routes. It will also be paved throughout its different neighborhoods. It will also help cyclists and promote green transport in Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s to relocate the main sewer line toward Sorek's purification plant.
