As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.
The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem about half a km away from the Kerem junction.
Inauguration of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long took place in Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze’ev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion and Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) as well as a plethora of cyclists.

Elkin his ministry, which together with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year in the development of all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism and in the creation of innovative tourist attractions and ventures that link the fascinating history of our eternal capital to the future of Jerusalem... I would like to invite cyclists to enjoy a safe and modern route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.
Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project. The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

The works currently underway include road construction, installation of blowers and advanced electrical and safety systems, in order to ensure that the tunnel is secure for the public to pass through all year round.
