The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique riding experience and hiking experience that is to be enjoyed by all.

The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital city.

The tunnel is located along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Mostza path. It is located in southern Israel in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The opening ceremony of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long, was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) along with hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination because of its glorious past. Nowadays, aside from its historic treasures it also has modern-day tourism." Elkin said. "The launch (of [this] tunnel project is a further step in the expansion of Jerusalem, and its transformation into a desirable tourist city for all sorts of visitors in Israel as well as across the world."

Elkin's ministry, which also in charge of the project together in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality, declared that his ministry "invests hundreds and millions of shekels annually in all aspects of Jerusalem's tourism industry and is involved in developing innovative attractions and ventures, that link the amazing historical history of our capital city and its future." I invite all cyclists to come and take a ride along the new, well-maintained and modern route which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of shifting the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem. "The tunnel, which is being constructed to connect to Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing paths for bicycles and those that will paved in its areas. It is intended to encourage biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green revolution in transport in Jerusalem."

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. The plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

The current works include road construction, installation of blowers as well as modern security and electrical systems to make the tunnel safe for people to walk through all year round.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to special recreation areas, such as Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the Biblical aquarium and zoo as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
