The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, is opened as part the 42-kilometer cycle route which runs through the capital.

נווה פריצקי The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza path. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance is found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was inaugurated by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin. The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov, Gihon Water Company Chairman, as well as hundreds of cyclists.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist destination due to its rich past. Nowadays, aside from its historic treasures, it also incorporates modern tourism." Elkin said. "The inauguration of [this] tunnel project is another part of the development of Jerusalem's city Jerusalem as well as its development into a desirable city that is attractive to all types of people in Israel and around the globe."

Elkin who, through his ministry and the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels annually in the growth of all aspects Jerusalem's tourism and the development and operation of exciting attractions, ventures , and other attractions which connect the rich past of Jerusalem's eternal city to the future". I would like to invite cyclists to enjoy a safe and modern-day route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is a central tool for realizing the vision to transform the idea of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin stressed. "The new tunnel connecting to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing bicycle paths and those that will paved in its neighborhoods. It is intended to promote biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green movement in the capital."

The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward Sorek's purification plant.

Road construction, installation , and testing of safety and electrical systems are some of the ongoing efforts to ensure that the tunnel is secure for all year.

Kerem Tunnel Kerem Tunnel provides access to exclusive recreation spots, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo as well as the natural springs of historical significance Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
