The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that is to be loved by everyone.

The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel, has been inaugurated in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, Israel's capital city.

The tunnel is located through the Nahal-Refaim-Emek-Motza path. The southern entrance of the tunnel is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists participated in a ceremony to inaugurate the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a major tourist attraction because of its rich history. Elkin added that in addition to its rich history, modern tourism is also incorporated into the Jerusalem city. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is yet another milestone in the advancement of Jerusalem as a tourism destination for all kinds of tourists throughout Israel and around the globe."

Elkin, who heads the project in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests hundreds of millions in the development of Jerusalem's tourism and the development of innovative attractions and ventures that link the glorious past of Jerusalem to the future. I would like to invite cyclists to enjoy a safe and modern-day route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

Elkin stressed the fact that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is an essential tool for achieving the dream to change the way we think about transport throughout Jerusalem." Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel will connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike trails. The tunnel will also be paved throughout its various neighborhoods. It will also encourage cycling and promote green transportation in the capital.

The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the late 90s to relocate a main sewer line for the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel which also includes the fifth line of water that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.

"The Kerem Tunnel Project is essential to realize the goal of changing the transportation concept throughout Jerusalem. "

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon
