Netflix Faces Backlash Over Controversial New Series 'Bad Thoughts'

Netflix is under fire after the release of its new psychological thriller series Bad Thoughts, with critics and viewers accusing the show of glorifying harmful mental health struggles and triggering vulnerable audiences.

The series, which debuted last Friday, follows a young woman (played by Jenna Ortega) who battles intrusive, violent thoughts while uncovering a dark conspiracy in her seemingly perfect town. While some praise its gripping storyline and Ortega’s performance, mental health advocates argue that the show dangerously romanticizes obsessive and destructive thinking without proper context or warnings.

Dr. Elena Martinez, a clinical psychologist, tweeted: '‘Bad Thoughts’ fails to distinguish between mental illness and a plot device. This kind of portrayal can reinforce stigma and even trigger those with OCD or anxiety disorders.'

Netflix has defended the series, stating that it includes content warnings and is meant to be a fictional exploration of psychological struggles. However, online petitions demanding its removal have already gained over 50,000 signatures.
