I took a deep breath, adjusted my grip on the steering wheel until my knuckles were white enough to be mistaken for pearls, and began to inch backwards. The cones seemed to lean in, whispering taunts. The examiner coughed. Was it a signal of imminent doom? Or just a tickle in his throat?

Then, it happened. Pure, unadulterated magic. I guided the car, not with brute force or frantic corrections, but with a delicate dance of fingertips on the wheel. The car slid into the bay with the grace of a swan on a still lake. I swear I heard a faint celestial choir.

The rest of the test was a whirlwind. Roundabouts, hills, emergency stops that felt more like controlled demolitions. Through it all, I had my seatbelt, my trusty armour, a constant reminder that even in the face of potential vehicular chaos, some safety protocols were non-negotiable.

As we pulled back into the test centre, the examiner finally broke his stoic silence. He cleared his throat, and my heart did a drum solo against my ribs. 'Well,' he said, a hint of something that might have been amusement playing on his lips, 'that was… certainly an experience.'

He paused, letting the tension build to a near-unbearable crescendo. My palms were sweating so much I could have watered a small garden. Then, he handed me the paper. A pass! I’d done it!
