Like we’ve done in years past, every Friday throughout the season we’ll highlight the five best games of the coming weekend. This year, we’ll pick those games against the spread, plus some other matchups that caught our eye from a betting perspective.
Now that we’re in the second half of the 2018 college football season, conference title races are beginning to heat up across the country. The top games of Week 8 could have a huge impact on which teams end up playing for championships once the first week of December rolls around.
It’s a big weekend in the Pac-12, especially, with No. 12 Oregon and No. 25 Washington State squaring off in pivotal Pac-12 North matchup while USC and Utah meet with first place in the South likely on the line.
We’ll get some movement in races in the SEC, Big Ten and ACC as well. Oh, and there are six ranked teams on the road against unranked foes. Could there be more upsets in the cards?

USC, winner of three in a row, is now 4-2 (3-1 Pac-12) after beating previously undefeated Colorado. The Trojans have sole possession of first place in the South and can widen the gap on Saturday night in Salt Lake City. Despite the winning streak, USC still seems like a team that is trying to find consistency on offense. The Trojans completely lack a running game, meaning a ton is put on the shoulders of freshman quarterback J.T. Daniels. Daniels and the USC offense put up only three points in his first big road test (Week 2 at Stanford). Utah’s No. 9 ranked defense could prove to be a much more difficult challenge.
The Utes also enter this game on a winning streak, having combined for 82 points in wins over Stanford and Arizona. Utah jumped out to a big lead and put up nearly 500 yards of offense in the Arizona win on Friday night, improving to 2-2 in Pac-12 play in the process. Depending on how Colorado (5-1, 2-1) plays on the road against No. 15 Washington, Utah could end the night in first place in the division if it wins. If the Utes’ offense continues at its recent pace to pair with a top 10 defense, they could be a dangerous team as the season progresses and maybe even earn their first-ever Pac-12 division title.
