National Assembly : Secretary General Effectively Takes Office

Gaston Komba was installed by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the House, Hilarion Etong on April 16, 2020.

Appointed on April 14, 2020 in a bureau order by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguié Djibril, the Secretary General of the House, Gaston Komba has been installed into his functions. He was commissioned by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Hilarion Etong, on behalf of the House Speaker in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Bolvine Wakata. 

Commissioning the former member of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2020 for the Nkam constituency, Hon. Hilarion Etong urged him to be at the side of every MP irrespective of their political representation. “You need to be open and flexible. You would need to pay attention to the training of staff,” the Senior Deputy Speaker noted, adding the Secretary General should recongnise hard work and sanction nonchalance.

Having worked at the Presidency of the Republic from 1993 to 2004 in three different services comprising the mail, studies and production of the official gazette, Hon. Hilarion Etong encouraged Gaston Komba to contribute to the preservation of the archives of the National Assembly. 

With the current healthy challenge the world and Cameroon are facing, Gaston Komba was asked to see to the respect of prescribed measures by the government and the World Health Organisation at reducing the spread of the virus.

Expressing joy after his installation, Gaston Komba thanked the House Speaker for the mark of confidence and said his objectives are advancing the mission of the National Assembly. “I am here to serve, serve and serve,” he said in gratitude. 

Gaston Komba was born in 1960 in Douala, holds a degree in private law with a master’s degree in political science.
