NamelessAOSP Review - A Perfect ROM doesn't exi-

Features:
As I mentioned in ProtonAOSP’s review, Nameless is very identical to ProtonAOSP. Yes this ROM does have all basic Android 12 features. Dynamic Theming Support, Extra Dim, One-handed mode and all that good stuff you would expect on Android 12. Other than that, here are some extra features this ROM packs in:
- Unlimited Google Photos backup is available on this ROM
- Off-screen gestures support

- Custom Monet Theming, with AMOLED Black Dark Mode.
- Different icon styles are available for Wi-Fi, Signal and QS Icons. Variety of fonts as well, so change a new font every week and you won’t be able to run out of the list in less than a year.

- Proper working Game Space, and it’s not a regular Android 12 Gaming Dashboard. It’s a proper gaming dashboard for gamers. Similar to OnePlus Game Space on Oxygen OS.

It works fine most of the time. For FPS Counter, better use Game Dashboard by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and tapping on the controller icon.
- Themed Icons are available for apps in Stock Pixel Launcher
- 60-90 Hz Switcher is available, with options to force 90Hz or dynamically switch between 60-90Hz.
- Per-app volume management is available
- OnePlus Camera is also available. Unlike ProtonAOSP, Slow Motion mode does work.
Thermals and Performance:
No issues in daily usage. I have no complaints at all as everything works fine. As I have said that Proton and Nameless are pretty identical in my last review, so in comparison to the old build of Proton I used, Nameless is far smoother. No overheating or stutters in my casual usage.
RAM Management is fine as well. No problems there as well
Time for Geekbench Scores and they are as follows:

The single-core and multi-core scores for this ROM are somewhere around 593 and 1835 respectively, which aren’t bad and are similar to what we had on Proton.
Gaming:
Once again, I didn’t get enough time to game on this ROM. So here are some user reviews on Gaming on Nameless AOSP:
Biometrics:
This ROM only has Fingerprint unlock, and it’s decent enough to unlock. Unlocks 8 out of 10 times for me. Those other 2 attempts are something where it takes a pretty long time to detect my finger or straightway deny to unlock with the fingerprint at all. But overall, the fingerprint unlock on this ROM actually works fine.
Battery Performance:
The battery backup isn’t decent enough for me, but I won’t say it’s worst. It’s slightly bad. Not because of the Active drain, but because of Idle Drain.
That’s why I am talking about Battery after talking about good things about this ROM.
Have a look at this usage:

According to the Battery Stats, I found in the Battery usage section, this usage covers 3.5hrs YT, 1hr 15min Instagram, 1.5 hrs WhatsApp, 1hr of Snapchat, 1hr of MX Player and 1.5hrs of Apple Music via Bluetooth, where idle drain does make sense. The total Screen-on time I was able to get was around 5.5hrs, which isn’t great but still, I would give it a pass.
But sometimes, the idle drain doesn’t make sense to me:

This usage covers around 2hr 15min YT, 1hr Instagram, 1hr Telegram, 2hr WhatsApp, 1hr Snapchat and 30mins of Chrome with a total screen-on time of 4hrs 40min only.
There weren’t many apps I used in the background like Apple Music and the phone was on WiFi for the whole time. I still don’t know how the Idle drain is so bad on this ROM, but it’s something that does make you carry a charger with you as you might have to charge in the evening or at the end of the day.
Idle Drain:
The idle drain in Casual Usage is extremely bad, but when I turned off everything like Mobile Data, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc the drain was still there.

There was around 15% idle drain in just 7hrs. Now, do note that I faced high idle drains such as this one overnight. I checked idle drains of one of my friends who was also testing NamelessAOSP on his Nord, and the drains were up to 8-9% in 6hrs. Still not good, but the drains exist.
Issues I have noticed:
- Haven’t faced many issues on this ROM this time, but sometimes the network speed indicator doesn’t show up for Mobile Data in Status Bar. I checked NamelessAOSP’s Support Group as well and found that some other users were facing it as well. So it might be something source related.
- Sometimes the QS Media Player didn’t use to show up. This issue existed on PE as well, but it’s not a major one as one SystemUI Restart fixes it.
- [KNOWN BUG] Tap2Pay doesn’t work on THIS Build, but it might be fixed in upcoming builds.
So, NamelessAOSP or ProtonAOSP? – Conclusion:
Proton just received an update 2 days ago, and that’s what I will be reviewing after NamelessAOSP. But in my usage, Nameless didn’t disappoint me. It has a better Gaming Mode, Slow motion works in the OnePlus Camera, better fingerprint unlocking performance, off-screen gestures, etc. But ProtonAOSP had Dolby and OnePlus Settings.
But do give this ROM a try. It’s smooth in usage, which almost no bugs in my usage. Yes, there are some glitches, but every ROM has it and they are just minor things.
