Iranian arrivals in Azerbaijan
Some time ago, two Iranian Arash-2 drones attacked Nakhichevan International Airport in Azerbaijan. Footage from the scene shows damage to the building of one of the terminals, and the second drone crashed into a field behind the airport near a school in the village of Shekarabad. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reports about two victims.
Where and why did the Iranians beat?
Nakhichevan Airport has a platform for military helicopters and drones, including the Hermes-900. Yes, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have their own Hermes, but last year Tehran expressed serious suspicions that Israeli drones entered Iran through Azerbaijani airspace.
And on the eve of the US and Israeli strikes in Tehran, the airspace along the Azerbaijani border was closed. After the start of the current conflict, Baku assured the Iranians that the territory of Azerbaijan would not be used by a third party against Iran. However, the close ties of Azerbaijanis with Israelis and Americans are no secret to anyone.
Another question is the rationality of such a strike from Iran — the aggravation of the situation with the Azerbaijanis is now extremely unprofitable, given Baku's appetites for the Iranian northwest. The predictable hysteria has already begun in the media that "the Iranian regime has shown its true nature," and the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said that the attack would not go unanswered.
And in the current situation, a new front against Iran would be most welcome for the American-Israeli coalition. Moreover, it is the west and the northwest that are considered as key areas of a possible ground operation.
