Taiwan is “ home to about 580,000 people who belong to one of 16 officially recognized tribes ,” which is less than five percent of Taiwan’s population . In or/and , a new multimedia chamber operatic poem set to world premiere on Friday, September 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Asia Center Texas Center, Taiwanese-American composer Shih-Hui Chen drew inspiration from a sacred ceremony of the Paiwan people of Taiwan and situated it against events that occurred a world away – the Women’s March of 2017 and the local demonstrations that followed. Chen explores the “ unifying truth ” of these events in the work, which features a libretto from Monique Truong and direction from Doug Fitch . A second performance is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. with panel discussions to follow both. An opening night reception will also follow Friday’s performance and panel. Tickets can be purchased here for $25 to $35.

Robin Free is admiring a naked photo of herself. In the arty black and white print, the 47-year-old Tomball native is standing with her back to the camera, hand on her hip, hair slightly blowing back like a goddess. She's standing on her toes as if wearing five-inch heels, which she happens to be sporting at the time.
Free is not alone. Other women are showing off naked photos of themselves to friends, family and strangers during a preview earlier this week of "40 Over 40" -- a photography series opening Saturday night at the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston. The show is comprised of portraits of 40 women who are over the age of, yes, 40, wearing nothing but what nature intended.
No one photo is alike -- the willing subjects are of all races and body types, striking unique poses. There's one who has her arms stretched high towards the sky, elongating her body. Another sits with her legs strategically crossed over her lower body, perfectly compositioned. In one long, particularly striking shot, a woman sits with her back to the camera, a tattoo of a bird with its wings outstretched on her lower back subtly visible. There's even a photo of MOCAH founder Rhonda Radford Adams, sitting with her arm back and looking upwards as if having a spiritual experience.
The 40 photos all began with No. 1 -- Tami Shane. Five years ago, Shane was feeling pretty down about her body, but managed to work up the courage to ask a commercial photographer she was seeing at the time to take naked photos of herself before her body "went south."
"I had really bad self-esteem," said Shane, 47, who in her photo is lying on her back, feet straight up in the air, looking at the camera with her finger seductively in her mouth. "But this made me stop comparing myself to everyone else. I'm comfortable in my own skin now."
Jeff Myers, the Houston photographer behind the 40 photos, picked up on something during his shoots with Shane.
"I noticed an aura about her," said Myers. "I thought, do all women over 40 have this aura?"
And so "40 Over 40" was born. Through social media and word of mouth, Myers found 39 other women willing to shed their clothes for his camera. He didn't ask any -- they all volunteered, and he didn't turn anyone away until he reached 40. Using a single light source against a black background, he'd spend about four hours on each shoot and then comb through the hundreds of photos until he found that perfect one. And he didn't do any touch-ups, either, in case you were wondering.
Among the women in attendance during a preview on Wednesday, it was pretty unanimous. What started out with the mentality "Well, I'm not getting any younger" became transformative, liberating, life-changing. There were no regrets, either, even if some had their reservations at first.
"I should have been No. 2," said Free, who was immediately recruited by her childhood friend, Shane, when the project began, but wound up being the 22nd woman photographed in the series. "It took me until 22 to work up the courage to do it."

Sofia Vergara is feeling body confident!
The 45-year-old Modern Family actress recently posed nude for Women's Health 's Naked Issue, looking undeniably gorgeous on the September cover. In the accompanying interview, Vergara gets candid about how her body has changed through the years, the work she puts in to maintain her famous physique and why her husband, Joe Manganiello, appreciates her for being herself.
Vergara says posing naked for Women's Health was especially important to her because of the message it's sending.
"Here's a woman, 45, being able to show her body," she points out. "It's not like before, when it was just young girls who would make the cover of a magazine."
Though Mangianello, of course, had some thoughts.
"Joe's like, 'F**k, you're going to be naked in everything now? Why?'" she says with a laugh, referencing a steamy shower scene in her upcoming spy thriller, Bent .
Vergara has no problem getting candid about aging in Hollywood.
"I'm 45. Even if you want to, at this time in your life, you can't be perfect," she explains. "It's not that you hate it, or that you're upset about it, but it is our reality. We're changing. I see it happening to me. I want to look my age, but I want to look great. I think if you are obsessed with this 'I want to look younger' thing, you're going to go crazy."
"People say, 'Oh, you look like you're in your 20s.' Well, it's not true," she adds. "Our skin is different. I had never thought of the word pore, then I'm like, 'Sh**! What do I do with these?'"
Another topic Vergara isn't shy about is her bra size.
"I can barely cover my boobs with two arms -- I'm a 32-triple-D!" she says when noting why most nude magazine poses won't work for her. "My boobs are real, and I had a baby. If I grab them, I can't even cover the nipple!"
The actress is accepting of her body, including that she'll never have six-pack abs. But she does strive to eat healthy, and works out with a trainer three or four times a week using the Megaformer, an advanced Pilates machine.
"Joe built a very nice gym in the house, so I don't have any excuses," she admits. "It's not about having muscle or cut abs. I don't have abs because I'm not 'I need to be like a fit model with a perfect body.' That would take too much effort!"
"It's like torture for me," she later admits about exercising. "I'm in a bad mood two hours before, I'm in a bad mood while I'm doing it, I'm in a bad mood at the end because I have to schedule the next class."
But if there's one thing she does love, it's looking her best for any occasion. Vergara admits she almost always wears lipstick, even if she's at home by herself.
"One of the first things Joe told me when we started dating was, 'I like how you're always very well put together,'" she reveals. "He said, 'I've had girlfriends that are all day long prancing around the house in sweats, no makeup…' I'm not saying that's bad; it's great. For good or worse, it's the way I grew up: Accept yourself but also be better than yourself."
ET spoke to Vergara last month at the Emoji Movie premiere, where she talked about playing the flamenco dancer emoji.
"Who who else is gonna do that than me?" she quipped.

They spoke about the importance of seeing black women nurturing their children.
Aug 29, 2016, 11:35 AM EDT | Updated Jul 30, 2020
Nicole Letizia, 36, mom of 2-year-old Sebastien
"I think a big issue for the public at large is that we are lacking diversity. The only images I had seen in the past were of tribal and native women of color breastfeeding in villages. I think it’s easier to seek help when you know there is someone out there similar to you who is experiencing the same thing, without feeling shame. Seeing features similar to yours means you are not being left out or disregarded. If more black breastfeeding moms were visible, there would most likely be a greater amount of programs available in a wider variety of communities to support them. "
Anastasia West, 24, mom of 2-year-old Natalia
" It is important for the public to see images of black women breastfeeding because that would normalize the act and encourage positive attitudes toward black women who chose to breastfeed. Everyday breastfeeding is an accomplishment deserving of encouragement and support."
Fatima Mills, 31, mom of 3-year-old Joshua
"I think it's important for the mainstream public to see images of black moms of all economic groups breastfeeding because it will have the greatest impact on the [breastfeeding] success rates in black communities ; it will no longer be looked at something only for the poor of foreign nations or the wealthy who can afford to stay home."
Jabina Coleman, 34, mom of 2-year-old Nyla
"I think it's important for all people to be aware of the fact that there are black moms out there who do breastfeed because breastfeeding in some communities is still viewed as something only white women do. However, nationally most African American women are breastfeeding at lower rates for initiation, exclusivity and longevity when compared to their white counterparts. Therefore, I believe normalizing breastfeeding and bringing images of black women nursing specifically in African-American communities will foster breastfeeding awareness and empowerment, and encourage women to make an informed decision to breastfeed. Essentially, Black Breastfeeding Week is about ensuring the health equity of future generations."
Nyja Richardson, 22, mom of 14-month-old Nolyn
"The black female body has been sexualized, objectified, and has been made a trend for decades. The only way for people to realize that our bodies were designed to be more than the latest trend
