A brain-dead sheriff named Lance, a stolid FBI agent named Jeff and a "well equipped" female paleontologist team up with Colonel Patrick Hendry (Kenneth Tobey), a grumpy retired monster fighter, to battle a 60 foot, three-eyed cross between man and dinosaur. Creatively named 'Monstersaurus Erectus', this could be the dumbest monster in the history of cinema.

Okay, I was flipping through Amazon Prime when I encountered this movie, which was likely recommended because I have watched a bunch of cheesy science fiction and horror movies. It looked pretty bad, and it is. But, for fans of B science fiction movies of the 50's and 60's, this movie is funny as heck. Okay, lots of the jokes are corny beyond belief. Two characters are talking about the monster, one says the creature is a monstersaurus erectus, and the other character said, something like "wrecked us, he almost killed us!" I could not help the laughs, as bad as the joke, and many others in this movie, were. In fact, the whole movie is just bad. Really awful. But dang, just one non sequitur after another, awful jokes, bad special effects, things that are obviously wrong, like a pilot sitting in a jet, and the pilot's back is to the direction the plane is traveling, and more and more and more. An actor looks out the window of a plane with a VIEWMASTER. It just never ends. I thought it was stupid and dumb and I could not stop laughing, so sue me. Did I mention that this movie has a ton of clips from old science fiction movies? Yeah, it does. Oh, what is the movie about? This really cheesy-looking monster running around wrecking stuff and eating people, mostly. Funniest Godzilla-sized monster ever. Okay, a lot of people will not appreciate the humor. Sorry! But, a lot of people will watch this movie and laugh non-stop, because there is a lot to laugh about. By the way, this movie has a ton of clips of B-movie stars, some of whom were still alive when this movie was being produced, and this movie milks their presence as much as it can. No challenge to my rating. This movie is bad, but funny, to me. In fact, it has so much in it, that I am going to watch this movie again, and try to figure out how many well-known stars are in cameos (John Agar, Forrest J. Ackerman, tons more). This movie is kind of like "Kentucky Fried Movie" for king-sized monster movie fans. Enjoy!

Having watched Whirlybirds when I was very young, I vaguely recalled Kenneth Tobey's face from that. But from many 1950's Monster movies, I definitely remember his performances in them. If you're a fan of 1950's monster movies, and appreciate tongue in cheek performances with enough cheese to satisfy the nation of France and the state of Wisconsin, then you'll LOVE this movie. It's played straight enough to be humorous, but light enough so you never take it seriously. This film took 21 YEARS to make, starting in 1984 and finishing in 2005, with it being Tobey and John Agar's (also another huge monster B-movie star from the 1950's) last film (both died in 2002). That time span is obvious in the movie, and is literally part of the charm of the thing as decades clash in both background and styles, with a lot of 1950s styles thrown in for some semblance of consistency. I won't go into the plot, or the rest of it. But it's VERY low budget, and uses a LOT of scenes from other monster movies as a background (a drinking game could be made if you recognize what movies those scenes came from!). All in all, it's an excellent poke at monster movies from the 1950's, all set in 1950's style of both film and sensibilities (with some 1980's feminism thrown in). There is some gratuitous nudity (at which they deliberately poke fun), and just about every monster movie trope ever used in the past from electric wires, Godzilla, and atom bombs. The references to, and even lines from dozens of monster movies from the 1950's and 60's dot the dialog as well. This is a sleeper I found when I wanted some background "entertainment" while I engaged in other tasks, and literally could not look away after the introduction. There's also a touching homage at the end for the actors who died during the making of the film. One MIGHT think that's also satirical, but as I mentioned, it's not. And it made a nice end to a very fun trip into the weird and wonderful world of B-grade 1950's Monster Movies.

Many of the other reviewers have done a superb job in describing the strengths (and weaknesses) of this splendid film. The plot was snappy. The acting was apt. The intro was a riot. And it was good to see so many leading stars from that era. Clearly, fun was had by all, and that included me. If you're a fan of this era, then this is one you'll want to see. And as of now, it is "Included With Prime". So the price is right! Many of you may not remember, but Bob Burns reprising his role in the gorilla suit was a particular treat. In that suit, he played Tracy in the mid-'70s live-action, short-lived TV show on Saturday mornings called "The Ghost Busters". (A decade prior to the hit movie.) He created more laughs without saying a word, than Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch, combined. And those guys were funny!

This is a difficult movie to rate...if you are old enough to have been a fan of many of the old Sci-Fi and Horror movies of the 1950's and are able to spot references to those old films, then you can get some good chuckles from the dialogues and scenes in "The Naked Monster". It was released decades ago with the title of "Attack of the B-Movie Monster" to a very limited run on VHS, and now is available as "The Naked Monster" on DVD, distributed by Anthem Pictures. Just keep in mind that the movie is definitely a low-budget production, shot almost as though it was an amateur effort. You're not going to find this movie anywhere near the caliber of other spoofs, such as "Airplane". All that being said, the movie brings back to the screen many of the stars of the 50's, including some who are no longer with us, having passed away. Among those are Kenneth Tobey ("Capt. Hendry" in "The Thing", who died in 2002), Robert Cornthwaite ("Dr. Carrington" in "The Thing", who died in July of 2006), and others from that genre. There are some gratuitous nude scenes in the movie, and in a film preview that's also on the DVD, so this film isn't really for kids. An interesting extra choice from the menu is an interview done between a horror-movie host and Kenneth Tobey, which has his remembrances of filming some of the movies he had starred in. That was fun to watch. Bottom line is that the 5-Star rating I gave it is for those who mainly want to revisit old memories. For anyone else, it's merely a curiosity piece.

First and foremost, it's a low budget / no budget rehash of every bad monster / sci-fi film from the 50s. Second, it stars Kenneth Tobey, "Col. Patrick Hendry" from "The Thing," as...ahem..."Col. Patrick Hendry." It also has Robert Cornthwaite..."Dr. Carrington," ALSO from "The Thing"...as...ahem..."Dr. Carrington." Third, it has the legendary scream queen of low budget trash horror films, Brinke Stevens, as "Dr. Nikki Carlton." There is a plethora of "Airplane / Naked Gun" puns and gags, lowbrow gross-out humor, DELIBERATELY BAD "special effects," The reason I LOVED THIS is that I loved "The Lost Skeleton Of Cadavra," one of the greatest homages to this genre in existence. After the success of this film, a director who shall go unnamed churned out 20 or so similar movies that attempted to follow that template. NONE of them had the charm, the humor, the spark. THIS ONE, however, is so relentlessly bad and goofy and inept (and ALL of it is INTENTIONAL), that if you have any interest in ANYTHING I've discussed here, you HAVE TO SEE IT. The best "Creature Feature" Saturday afternoon I've spent in a long time. It's a shame I'm limited to 5 stars.

Nostalgia made me watch this homage to old sci-fi flicks from the 50s. Scenes from those movies were cobbled together to make a story that almost makes sense. I admit that I laughed a couple of times and felt stupid for doing so then laughed even harder. This movie reminded me why I love all those old films, most of which I still watch.

This was a bad, somewhat good movie. It had a lot of clips from all of the 50,60,70 era monster movies/creatures. It had a lot of the bad one liners from many different movies, used every means to kill the "naked monster" based on all the old movies. They had quite a few cameo's from the actors of the old movies. The F/X was cheap to really bad. The beginning was okay, but halfway through, the jokes?, one liners got old Most people will not like it, they will call it a dumb bad movie

Fans of the 50s/60s B horror will love this one! The effects are horrendous... deliberately. You'll see a lot of old stars from that era.
