STEPFATHER AND MOTHER JAILED FOR FORCING BOY TO KNEEL NAKED ON PILE OF SHARP-EDGED BUCKWHEAT
A mother and a stepfather have been jailed for forcing an eight-year-old boy to kneel naked on a pile of buckwheat for hours, causing horrific injuries to his knees.
The brutal “punishment” led to the sharp-edged seeds becoming embedded in his skin requiring surgery for removal.
The boy’s mother Alina Yumasheva, 27, was handcuffed in court and taken away to begin her one-and-a-half-year sentence.
His stepfather Sergey Kazakov, 35, an IT company boss, who masterminded the torture, was jailed for four-and-a-half-years.
The pair were fined a total of £4,825 which must be paid to the boy, named Denis.
The eight-year-old had been living with his mother until her trial and now has been sent to an orphanage.
He may be put up for adoption with many requests from Omsk families to take him.
When he ran away from the punishment to plead for help from neighbours, he begged them to find him “a normal family”.
The court in Omsk was told how he was made to kneel, sometimes naked, for up to nine hours, and was deprived of food.
The “punishment” was inflicted on ten consecutive days in May 2019, and other times.
Kazakov also kicked him and pulled the child’s hair.
Pictures of the boy's knees with the penetrating hard buckwheat seeds caused deep shock in Russia.
Nurse Lyudmila Sharapova told the court: “It is the first time in my 43 years work that I have seen such injuries.
“The wounds were infected, the buckwheat had been embedded into his skin for several days.
“The mother should beg her son to forgive her until the end of her life.
“When I was cleaning up his wounds, he asked me: “Auntie, will you put me into a normal family now?”
A neighbour who saw the wounds said: “There was no skin on his knees, just raw meat.”
The pair said Denis was being punished for running away from home and stealing money.
The judge found Kazakov and Yumasheva guilty of “inflicting physical and psychological suffering” to the boy by “systematic beatings and other violent actions”.
“He kicked the boy each time he slightly moved when kneeling on buckwheat, shouting at him: “Stay still!” and “Shut your mouth!’,” reported Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He begged his mother to stop the torture but she refused.
Kazakov told the court: “I am fully aware of what I have done and I regret it very much…
Yumasheva confessed: “I made many mistakes in raising my son.”
Denis was initially put in a state boarding school after his surgery but later sent back to live with his mother who had not been remanded in custody.
