A midafternoon thunderstorm couldn’t stop the flood of flesh that was the Philly Naked Bike Ride.
Considered second in size only to Portland’s, the body-positivity event has been held in Philadelphia since 2009, attracting thousands to strip down and mount up — often decorated with colorful body paint or other creative accoutrements.
Organizers were determined to make this summer’s ride work after getting derailed by the pandemic last year. To follow the city’s COVID regulation, they adopted the mantra of “clothes off, masks on,” and it appeared most participants followed the rules.
Riders gathered Saturday at the starting point at Glendinning Rock Garden to disrobe and apply body paint. Around 5 p.m., they followed ride leaders on a route that snaked through many different neighborhoods, eventually ending nearby in Matthias Baldwin Park.

Part of a Set / Slideshow of images documenting the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) held in Brighton on Sunday 12th June 2011 - which was a trifle cold and wet and breezy.
The event is part of a global movement to promote a number of issues including cycling, road safety, oil dependency and consumption, low carbon and air pollution "green" environmental issues, health and exercise, the body and body art, alternative sexuality, exhibitionism and voyeurism.
The set description includes information on how to adjust your flickr settings to allow the viewing of all these images, most of which which have been set to "moderate" or "restricted" and which therefore may not be visible when viewed using default flickr account settings.

This year I took two cameras, my old camera that I've always used, and my new camera that takes better quality photos. However, my new camera isn't very convenient for carrying while I'm cycling, so I used that one before and after the ride, and my older one during the ride. At one point, the lens must have rubbed on my hand and got a small amount of grease from my sun protection spray, which has lowered the quality of some of these photos, but as soon as I noticed it and gave it a rub, the quality increased again.

On a family stroll. The Naked Bike Ride is back
When I was in London recently I bumped into the 2000 strong WNBR London event. I took a few photos but there aren't many I can post here other than this one which gives a flavour of the event......
The purpose of the event is to draw attention to oil dependency and many of the riders feature bodypaint and slogans promoting sustainabilility.
