Nadine Velazquez may not be a name we hear everyday, but that doesn’t mean she’s not making a big mark in Hollywood.
Nadine has put her My Name Is Earl television days to the side to pursue even bigger things with her acting career, and she’s taking the next step after being a sought-after model.
With her most recent project taking on a role alongside the legendary Denzel Washington as his love interest in the movie Flight , Nadine is a face we won’t forget.
From getting almost too close for comfort with Denzel himself, to taking on a whole new kind of role, Nadine has already broadened her acting horizon incredibly.
We got to talk with Nadine, and she told us all about working with Denzel and how she nearly exposed all of her lady parts to him!
GlobalGrind: So you play Denzel Washington’s love interest in the film. What was that experience like for you?
Nadine: Working with him was how you would probably imagine: amazing! I definitely look forward to working with him again.
Denzel is a really charismatic and funny guy. What was probably the funniest moment you two shared together off camera?
There was a scene where I bend over and I have no clothes on. In the opening shot, my character is getting dressed after a night of partying, there’s a moment where I have no underwear under my dress, and I’m bending over to him, not to the camera. I wasn’t nervous about being nude, but I was nervous about bending over because it just seemed like too much. The director told me he wasn’t going to do any shots that made me feel uncomfortable. So I asked this makeup artist to give me the piece of flesh-colored tape to wear on my private parts and covered it, so when I bent over he didn’t see any parts I was protecting. I kept bending over and everything was fine.
So when we were waiting for our last take, we were underneath the sheets and he asked, ‘Can I ask you a personal question?’ and I said yes, and he said, “Is that a piece of tape that you have down there?” I thought that was the most funny moment. I knew he was looking at that wondering if it was a deformity or an alien! He must have been so confused since it was so close to my skin color. I just told him “Denzel, you can’t have it all!”
What kind of advice did you get from your boyfriend when doing a nude scene like that?
My boyfriend is a creative director, so he’s very artistic. This kind of thing doesn’t really bother him at all. He doesn’t get jealous. If I had a man on my arm and I was going on a date with him, then of course he would get jealous, but when it comes to acting he doesn’t.
We heard in that scene where you were upside down, you were actually upside down. Did you guys get light-headed?
I was kind of nervous beforehand because I had never done anything like that before and I didn’t know what to expect. I was kind of freaking out and queasy. It reminded me of being in a rollercoaster, and I hate rollercoasters. Usually I don’t mind being upside down, but I hate rollercoasters!
If you could sit down and have a drink with anyone, who would it be and what would you guys talk about?
I would love to have a drink with Meryl Streep or Prince. Those are my top two people I would love to talk to.
Would you play Apollonia in a remake of Purple Rain ?
I want Prince to see something I do and call me and ask me to be on an album or if I want to dance!
This movie you starred with Denzel. Your next movie you star with The Rock. Are your friends jealous of your life?
Yeah, actually, they have gotten pretty jealous, but I don’t have any haters in my life. Playfully though, yes for sure!
