Myrna Loy Tits
Back in the early years of Hollywood, a lot of young women posed in what were called "Art" magazines. Usually "Nude nymphs in the woods" kind of shots. Mary Philbin was one such model turned actress. But I just stumbled upon this image on Ebay. Is the woman in the left shot not a young nude Myrna Loy? Look at those pursey lips and that little nose, and of course those eyes! What does everyone else think?

With next to no hesitation I'd say it is indeed Myrna Loy. Probably anytime from around 1921-1926 or so, although the earlier end of that scale puts her at just 16 years of age. There is simply no mistaking that facial structure.

Compare the pic below. Apologies for the lousy scan, but it is a small image.

Did you actually say, "Look at those pursey lips?"
My love of Myrna Loy continues to grow!
Do you have a close up of her ear whorl?Today is only Yesterday's Tomorrow
the nonsensical ramblings of a lunatic mind
I just did some googling on her modeling career. Turns out she modeled semi nude for a statue that was "erected" outside of her high school in Venice CA. It's apparently seen in the film GREASE. It no longer stands as it was vandalized and the headless body sits somewhere on the school grounds for much needed repair. Seeing as her first film was around 1925 when she was 20, I would date this photo somewhere around then. The mag from which its from was not dated. She was one beautiful woman!
I seem to recall reading that she did some work as a dancer for DeMille's 1923 Ten Commandments . Some sort of intro pieces at any rate. That then resulted in her, and another dancer friend, doing some artful photo modelling at about the same time. I'll have to check her autobiography, when I'm at home, for more details.Cheers,

>> Mary Philbin was one such model turned actress. <<

are there any pictures of this available?
And there are those Vargas paintings of nude actresses from the 1920s.
It's very likely to be Myrna Loy; there's a nude statue of her in front of Santa Monica High School, and it looks something like that photo. The statue was finally enclosed in a fence or something, as it was repeatedly vandalized. Says Leonard Maltin.
I stand corrected on the 1923 DeMille Ten Commandments appearance. What she did was dance at the Egyptian Theatre for a prologue to the 1923 DeMille Ten Commandments . She also danced in a prologue preceding Douglas Fairbanks' The Thief of Bagdad which resulted in pictures of some the dancers being put on display in the courtyard of the theatre. Portrait photographer Henry Waxman selected three of the girls for the photos, with Myrna amongst them. In the book Myrna Loy: Being and Becoming by James Kotsilibas-Davis & Myrna Loy, she writes:

"At his studio on Sunset he photographed the other girls first. Then he started on me. He Went crazy. He just kept shooting pictures - long shots, close-ups, portraits, art studies- all through the night."

Art studies? Doesn't mean nudes by any stretch, but it was enlargements of Myrna laying around Waxman's studio that drew the eye of Valentino...

Here's Loy as a chorus girl in THE JAZZ SINGER (this still is currently up for bid on ebay):

GARY L. PRANGE

"Sic gorgiamus allos subjectos nunc."
GARY L. PRANGE I'm not all bad, just mostly. "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectos nunc.”
This thread reminds me that years ago I think I saw a poster of Greta Garbo nude. It was for sale as a poster at one of the shops on the Universal City Walk. I told people about it after the fact and they said that they weren't aware of any Garbo nudes. I've tried to find a reference to them on a couple of occasions with no luck.

But, hey, there's always Maria Ouspenskaya!
I think the pic on the left is definitely her (top of this page), but not the one on the right. Uniquely beautiful. Most people fall into physical 'types', but I cant think of anybody who looked like Myrna Loy. Even in the 40s when she was older I cant imagine any healthy hetero male that wouldnt want some of that...
I don't think the girl on the right at the top is supposed to be the same girl as on the left (Loy).

It's more likely Joan Blondell

"Snips and snails and poppydoc tails...."
I think Joan Blondell had bigger, uh, you know...thingies.
There was a book that turned up used in every store around here for years and years, MOVIE STARS IN BATHTUBS. What I keep hoping for is NAKED MOVIE STARS. There were some magazines called "Celebrity Skin," but they weren't the celebrities I wanted to see naked. Although I am not gay, I was impressed by a nude photo of a young Roddy McDowall that's out there in the great wide web world; gave a new meaning to his first name.

Myrna Loy is one of those stars whose appeal is timeless. Across the decades, her beautiful eyes project a keen intelligence and self-assurance. This was no illusion.
You need only screen 1934’s “ The Thin Man ” again and focus on her to know exactly what I mean. Yes, William Powell ’s bibulous, affable Nick Charles takes center stage, but Loy’s Nora is right there beside him, feeding him, making his engine run. The brilliant underplaying she did in this role made her a star, and a host of terrific parts over the next three decades kept her one. In the late ‘30s, when MGM famously crowned Clark Gable “the King of Hollywood,” the press anointed her his queen, and nobody grumbled. She seemed just right for the part.
RELATED: 17 Dashing Photos of Clark Gable Like her contemporary Gary Cooper , Myrna started out her life on a ranch in Montana, but when her father died of influenza during the 1918 epidemic, she and her family re-located to Los Angeles. She was 13. Soon after, she discovered acting, and never looked back.
She made her first film appearance at 19, and for the next few years, her slightly exotic look won her small roles as vamps- a far cry from the solid, wholesome image she’d later cultivate. (The clean-scrubbed identity Hollywood cultivated for her was somewhat at odds with her personal ife, whixh included four failed marriages and no children). Tellingly, one of my favorite moments in all film includes Myrna Loy. It’s the sequence in William Wyler’s “ The Best Years Of our Lives ” (1946) when Fredric March come home to her (his wife) for good after years serving in the war. They first glimpse each other across a long hall, and then come together for a long-awaited embrace. The expression on her face (and his) says it all, and you can’t help but be moved. It all happens very quickly, but it’s a superb piece of acting from two top talents. As with most all movie actresses of the day, starring roles began to dry up for Myrna after she turned 40, but she kept right on working, transitioning to supporting roles. She did parts on TV as well through the ‘70s. She liked to work, and was a trouper. After the dissolution of her final marriage in 1960, Myrna moved to New York City, and it was there that she died 33 years later, at the age of 88. She left behind a rich legacy we should all enjoy and appreciate. Personally, I like to remember her in her prime, quaffing martinis with Bill Powell. I’d have wanted her as my smart, sassy sidekick, along with most other men on the planet. Here’s a photographic tribute that aims to capture the singular magic of Myrna Loy.

The Sin Of Nora Moran ( Majestic Pictures, 1933 ). The first of a selection of movie posters that I have found over a period of time showing nudity or partial nudity, starting with this poverty row production.

The World Gone Mad ( Majestic Pictures, 1933 ).Does the sexy female image on the border art look familiar? Majestic released this film on 15 April 1933, and then they released The Sin Of Nora Moran on 13 December 1933, eight months later. Undoubtedly nothing remotely looking like this appeared in either film. The various poses of the scantily clad female were produced solely to attract potential male ticket buyers. One wonders if there are are any other Majestic pre-code film posters that featured the revealing redhead in similar sexy poses ?

Flirtation ( 1934 ). Another poverty row production, this time from First Division Pictures Curious to know what was under the black bar on, can I say, the bottom of the poster.

I've got no idea...anyone want to have a crack?

Ran across this recently. Originally from a 1940 Life magazine article on code no-nos.

Great find Jay.Although the photograph appears to have been originally taken by A.L. ''Whitney'' Schafer in 1940, the above article was published later on and refers to two British films released in the U.S.A. in 1946 that were heavily censored there. Notorious Gentleman ( A Rakes's Progress in U.K. ) and The Wicked Lady, both from 1945. The photographer of ''Thou Shalt Not'' was A.L. ''Whitey'' Schafer, and I thought seeing we have many fans on the forum of Rita Hayworth and Veronica Lake I would include two beautiful photograph images he had taken of them around the time of the peak of their popularity.

Death Kiss ( 1932 ). Two versions of publicity produced for this film.

Australian newspaper advertisement from 1931. MGM studio publicity shots. U.S. poster. Trader Horn ( 1931 ). MGM certainly pushed the half naked Edwina Booth angle.

For movie poster collectors who know...

Let's not forget about the suggested nudity in films, on film posters as well, some examples soon.

1935 Dante's Inferno title lobby card and a black and white scene from the 1924 version of Dante's Inferno. It appears to me the above are from the same scene that appears in both films. The 1935 version refined this scene, and the female was covered up to allow the scene to be able to pass the production code rules which were starting to be enforced in 1935.

Next we'll take a look at Betty Blythe and some of her films. She was one of the first actresses to ever appear nude ( or in various stages of undress ) on screen. Nudity on a Bela Lugosi poster should be of interest later on as well. One sheets and lobby cards on the agenda as well. I hope all this nudity won't be too overwhelming.
Publicity shot and an unidentified image, most likely from She, in the 1920s.
Chu-Chin-Chow ( 1923 U.K. / 1925 U.S. A. )
Betty Blythe was one of the first actresses to ever appear nude, or in various stages of undress on screen. She starred in some exotic silent films as pictured above,
Betty's last screen appearance was playing a small unbilled part in My Fair Lady in 1964.
Jeanette Loff was born Janette Lov in Orofino, Idaho, on October 9, 1906. Her father Maurice was a successful violinist who moved their family to Canada when Jeanette was a child. She loved to sing and she studied music at the Ellison and White Conservatory. At age sixteen she had a starring role in the operetta Treasure Hunters. Jeanette moved to Oregon and got a job playing the organ. She made her acting debut in the 1927 film Uncle Tom's Cabin. Cecil B. Demille offered her a contract and she quickly became one of Hollywood busiest starlets. In 1928 she appeared in Annapolis, Love Over Night, and Hold 'Em Yale. After her parents divorced Jeanette's mother Inga and sisters Irene and Myrtle came to live with her in California. Jeanette married a salesman named Harry Rosenbloom but they divorced in 1929. She also had a love affairs with producer Paul Bern, song writer Walter O'Keefe, and actor Gilbert Roland. Jeanette got the chance to show off her soprano voice in films like King Of Jazz and Party Girl. By 1931 she was tired of playing ingà © nues and decided to take a break from making movies. She moved to New York city and starred in several Broadway shows. Jeanette tried to make a comeback with the 1934 drama St. Louis Woman but it was not a hit. After a few more small roles her career stalled. Her final film was the comedy Million Dollar Baby. She retired from acting and married producer and liquor salesman Bert E. Friedlob. Sadly she did not get to enjoy her new life for very long. On August 5, 1942 Jeanette died after ingesting ammonia. She was only thirty-five years old. Although many believe she committed suicide her death may have been accidental. Her family does not believe she took her own life. Jeanette is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
