A mother and son in Massachusetts, USA, have been charged with incest after the man’s wife reported that she walked in on them having sexual intercourse.
Police were called to a residence in Fitchburg on May 20 after receiving a report of a disturbance. The responding officer was informed that a woman had caught her husband, Tony Lavoie, and his mother, Cheryl Lavoie, having sex, the Sentinel and Enterprise reported on Aug. 24.
The woman’s cousin spoke to the officer, who said that he received a call from Tony’s wife after she saw the incident and that she called 911 after.
The officer interrogated the mother and son separately. Both said that having sex was consensual.
When asked about why it happened, Tony, 43, said, “I don’t know. It just happened.” He also expressed that he wanted treatment.
Cheryl, 64, explained that they had gotten closer over the past months and that they just began kissing.
The mother and son were charged with incest and were summoned to appear in court on Aug. 20. The charge is a felony, and the two could face up to 20 years in prison.
The two were arraigned on Aug. 20 and both pleaded not guilty. The judge released them on personal recognizance and were ordered to stay away from each other.
The Lavoies are expected back in court on Oct. 27 for a pretrial hearing. Niña V. Guno / ra

My Son's Wife, I wanted to give a 4.5! My Son's Wife is the edgy Christian fiction since it deals with surreal characters that we can place ourselves as the reader into their lifestyles. Lady Audrey Graham was a widow who remarried to a Pastor (Graham), and had a son named Stiles from previous marriage and daughter Francesa "Frankie" they had a married couple. Frankie was the key character throughout the story that had a homosexual lifestyle due to her past predators. Unbelievably, Frankie confessed to her best friend, Rena, who she also experimented with intimately in the past. Rena Jackson always bailed Frankie out of jail and situations she was undergoing due to her guilt of sleeping with her in the past. Then, when Stiles finished Divinity School, he returned home and fell in love with his sister's best friend Rena, later married, and discovered his sister and Rena homosexual relations. Frankie was devastated when she found out she had HIV from one of her intimate partners. Not only lessons were learned about what is done in the dark can come in the light, Rena Jackson prayed to God to be cleared from STDs and several months later she did have herpes. We will suffer from our consequences. I was pleased that the author, Lipsey, did not allow the character to heal from her illnesses, for her hidden secrets to come to the forefront, and Stiles divorced her. Not your happy ending. What disturbed me the most at the end of the book, the mother, Lady Audrey Graham knew the truth about Francesca's molestation and covered it up from everyone, even when it broke wind (secret revealed), she still would put all blame on poor Frankie. Overall, we need to be careful of our sinful actions, we will reap what we sow!

This "christian fiction" novel was not what I thought it was going to be at all! This "christian fiction" novel was not what I thought it was going to be at all! It was so much going on in this book, really deep and controversial issues regarding Christianity and homosexuality in the black church. I thought the author did an excellent job touching on the taboos of homosexuality in the black church by quoting scripture that neither supported nor condemned it as being a sinful act. It was ironic that Pastor was the most understanding and forgiving of his daughter Frankie while still in the same breath he preached of her sinful ways. Pastor's wife Audrey was just a total mess and a perpetrator, allowing her daughter to be abused and doing nothing about it. She was the first lady of the church and she was so concerned with her image in the eyes of the congregation that she neglected her own daughter's accusations of abuse at the hands of her teenage cousin and the youth minister at the church. As a result, Frankie went down a destructive path in life. She was bitter and angry at everything and everybody, she was hateful toward her own best friend, she used drugs, and turned away from the church. The message of the book is forgiveness in the eyes of the Lord. It was a really good book and I was not expecting to like it as much as I did.

Shelia Lipsey is with out a doubt a great writer. The story she tells is one you can relate to. It’s not to over the top with preaching, and not the typical urban Christian novel. How can a woman cope with having a same sex lover and turn around and marry her brother? Can you see the drama, the secrets, and the betrayal? I highly recommend My Son’s Wife, not only does Lipsey teach the word of God in this urban tale, she allows us to walk in her characters shoes. You will know more about your self when you are done reading this story. Tamika Newhouse AAMBC Reviewer

Who are we to judge This book was great.it had a lot of drama. It says that what's done in the dark will come to light well for the Graham family the chickens came home to roost and they didn't stop until everything came out. I look forward to reading book two.

My Son's Wife is full of real-life drama and the kind of stuff that makes a reader's blood pressure spike. The way the author wrote everything from an omniscient point of view worked for the story well, otherwise it would have been difficult to know some of their internal struggles in the heat of the moment. My Son's Wife is full of real-life drama and the kind of stuff that makes a reader's blood pressure spike. The way the author wrote everything from an omniscient point of view worked for the story well, otherwise it would have been difficult to know some of their internal struggles in the heat of the moment. I could hardly turn the pages fast enough to see how things would turn out. The romance was smoking hot, the characters were well-motivated in all of their dysfunctional behaviors, and the plot really grabbed my heart and held on tight. Each situation kept escalating until the deeds done in secret blew up in a number of characters' faces. When the truth finally came out, it really messed up their lives. The fallout was very well done. The author did a great job at showing how turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to abuse because of how it might make you look (if discovered) ends up damaging the people you love most and ultimately hurting everything and everyone in your life. The author made a great point showing how parents blaming a child out of fear will not only make the child feel like they have no one safe they can turn to, but it also causes such deep pain that it can lead to destructive behavior. On top of all that, the author showed that self-righteousness and pride are uglier sins than even sexual sin because it blocks forgiveness, healing, and the ability to show mercy. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble, right? I loved Rena. She was my favorite character because she was afraid, but she did love her husband. She wasn't what everyone assumed. I think she got pulled into an abusive relationship at a vulnerable time in her life and then she felt like she couldn't get out of it. I don't believe that was who she was meant to be. I wanted to hurt some people when the situation was revealed because those self-rightteous, judgmental people showed no mercy, and honestly, if they'd listened long enough to hear the whole story, they may have come away with a different perspective. Because I didn't know how things would ultimately turn out, I kept thinking about the story when I was forced to put it down. Life tends to get in the way of my reading time. In the end, I was a bit bummed how things turned out, but at the same time it was very realistic. The author set the stage for more drama, and I can't help being curious about how things will turn out in My Son's Next Wife. If the sequal is half as entertaining as the first book, I'll have a tough time putting it down. The author does drama well and she made me care about the lives of the characters. I zipped right through this book and can't wait to see how the next story will turn out.

Pastor Graham is the head of the church but not of his home. He’s so busy doing the will of God that he has forgotten about his first ministry: his family. First Lady Audrey Graham is a sheep in Ann Taylor’s dressings. In her mind, she is the perfect mother. In reality, she has spoiled her son and failed her daughter. Stiles Graham is his mother’s son. Great preacher yet he fails to practice what he preaches. When his wife, Rena, begs for forgiveness he not only chooses not to forgive her but hold her faults over her head as if he is the Almighty God. Francesca ‘Frankie’ Graham the common denominator and the root of everyone’s problems. She’s the daughter of Pastor and First Lady Graham, sister of Stiles and Rena’s lover. Frankie is manipulative and selfish but underneath her shell there is a little girl screaming to be protected and loved. She has issues but you will see that after her innocence has been stolen and finding out that her mother has known the entire time is the reason she is so cold and heartless. Rena Graham, wife of Stiles Graham and for the most part an all around great person. She has a secret that threatens to expose the skeletons in her closet. The title of the book seems to suggest that the story will be told from First Lady Audrey’s perspective. It was not. The book is about the Graham Family minus Rena although she is a factor the secrets that reveal themselves were there long before Rena arrived. Rena has put up with Frankie through her jail stints, drug habits, unemployment and whatever else she seems to get herself into. It is after Frankie is sent to jail after a probation violation that Stiles and Rena’s relationship develop. Stiles see that his sister’s best friend is all grown up but can’t seem to understand why she can’t leave Frankie to clean up her mess. When Rena tells Frankie that her and Stiles are getting married hell breaks lose. Every chance Frankie is able to she threatens to reveal their lesbian love affair. My Son’s Wife was a good read.As a survivor of childhood abuse, I was happy that the subject was discussed throughout the book. Not many Christian authors tackle subjects like sexual abuse, STD’s, AIDS, and homosexuality. Lipsey was brave and did a good job in shining a light on issues churches fail to see or choose to ignore.

This was my first time reading Ms. Lipsey's work and I have to say, overall, I liked 'My Son's Wife.' It had a good message about the things you do in the dark coming to light eventually, and the hypocrisy of some people (namely so-called Christians) when it comes to issues like homosexuality. However, while I liked the message, I can't say that I LOVED the book. It took me a while to even get through it because for the first maybe two-thirds of the book, I really couldn't get into it.
