I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster ride. As soon as I think my Mom is getting ready to pass away (from sleeping 18 hours most days), she has a good day then I don't know what to think.
Yesterday we played cards (we used to play every afternoon). Today she is sleeping again (after a good night's sleep).
She has always told me she's not hungry from a long time ago but I would bring her food anyway and she would eat. She woke up for a brief time around noon today and I made her a scrambled egg with toast and hot tea. She ate it all.
I just feel sad. I really think and feel that her body is getting ready for that time. I hope I can handle it.

Sleeping a lot is a sign of decline but it is not the only one.
Is mom on Hospice? They will educate you on the different signs that are indicating End Of Life.
There are breathing changes
Skin color can change
Stopping eating and drinking are also indicators.

If mom is not on Hospice I would contact a few, have her evaluated and make a decision on what Hospice you want to select. There are reviews of Hospice on Social Media as well as Medicare Website.
There are 2 basic types
NOT for profit
FOR profit.
Medicare covers Hospice
You will get supplies and equipment that you need.
A Nurse will come 1 time a week, more if needed.
A CNA will come a few times a week to help bathe, dress, order supplies.
And there are other services you can take advantage of. Social Worker, Chaplain, Music Therapy, Volunteer that can sit with mom while you run out and do errands. This is just a few.
No my Mom is not on hospice. I do know of a few nurses when I feel the time has come.

She's still eating (not as much as she used to), and she asked me 30 minutes ago if I wanted to play cards so that's a good sign.

I just want to be prepared.

It's really hard to say, the nurses for my mom told me that unless something emergent happens they can go on that way indefinitely.
My mom was probably sleeping or dozing 18 hours a day while I still had her in my home, after she was in the nursing home I don't think she was ever really awake except for meals, when she was being care for or if there was music or activity that caught her attention (but even then she usually dozed off after half an hour. Mom lived that way in the NH for 18 months until she succumbed to aspiration pneumonia.
I guess it is hard to say. Mom seems healthy otherwise and she does have days where she stays up the entire day and sleeps good at night.

She is 95 and she is still listening to her Echo Dot which plays music that she loves. Today she didn't want to watch her game shows due to a bad headache.

I keep reminding myself that I need to take it one day at a time.

I'm hoping at this point you have hospice involved. What are they saying about moms situation? Not that they're always right, but they should be able to give you some sort of idea as to what is going on.
And your right, this type of journey is exactly like a rollercoaster ride, and it can be quite exhausting.
My husband who had vascular dementia, slept anywhere from 16-20 hours a day the last 6 months or so of his life.
So just enjoy whatever time you have left with your mom, and know that only God knows the day and time that He will call her home. And yes, you will be able to handle it, however God chooses for it to go down. God bless you and your mom.
