Promo art released for My Hero Academia, Vol 33 teases at the return of the series most discussed romance, showing Deku in the arms of Uraraka.
Promotional art released for My Hero Academia Vol, 33 teases that the romance that fans wanted most but never got could actually be still a possibility. As Deku and Uraraka are depicted in an intimate pose, there might be a chance their relationship will move to the next level.
My Hero Academia 's author Kohei Horikoshi has never allowed his protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, to develop a proper romantic relationship. Surely a high-school context such as that of the U.A. High Academy is usually the right one to make relationships blossom, as shonen and shojo manga have shown countless times. However, the young heroes were simply too busy dealing with one crisis after another. It doesn't happen that, in the beginning, Deku was shown as really timid, always acting embarrassed around the other sex. This was p articularly true around his classmate Ochako Uraraka , who also appeared to be developing feelings for Deku, especially when she acted jealous of his interactions with Mei Hatsume. The interactions between the two young heroes were fun and cute, but they suddenly stopped, leaving fans wondering if Horikoshi had simply dropped the storyline completely.
The most recent events in the manga did not leave any room for romance. The confrontation with series antagonist All for One took a turn for the worse after a massive breakout from the Tartarus prison released a huge number a villains, leading to civilians losing their trust towards heroes. Deku, being the primary target for All for One, who wants to get his hands on his One of All quirk, decided to distance himself from his friends, starting his own vigilante campaign to apprehend the escaped villains and hopefully discover more about All for One's plans, including his hideout. After weeks of non-stop fighting, Deku's costume became covered in blood and dirt, and the usually nice and compassionate character took on a sinister appearance, dubbed "Dark Deku". At this point, however, his class 1-A companions intervened to bring him back, and Uraraka played a major role in it.
The promotional art shows Deku still in his dirty, torn, and ragged clothes. However, his face is serene, he's not wearing the mask that gave him such a hideous appearance, and he is peacefully resting in the arms of Uraraka. The girl even looks right at the readers, bringing her finger to her mouth, as if asking them to not disturb Deku in this deserved moment of rest. It is a beautiful image, reminding in its composition of the classic Piety statues, and it also reminds of Uraraka's fundamental role in making Deku accept once again that his friends are not a burden, and that they can protect him just as well as he can protect them. It was Ochako's powerful, moving speech, that convinced the crowd of civilians gathered inside U.A. High for protection to let Deku in, even if he is the villains' target. In the end, despite the fact that convincing Deku required the efforts of all of his classmates, it was Uraraka that made it possible to have him back.
This doesn't mean, obviously, that Deku and Uraraka's romance is back on the table (if it ever was), especially considering that the heroes are busy planning their final gambit against All for One and Shigaraki . However, this promotional art does a great job in summarizing Deku's solitary journey - depicted in volume 33 - and the important role that Uraraka has in his life. Fans of My Hero Academia 's most talked-about romance can still hope that there is a future where Deku and Ochako are finally together.
