The Muslim American Veterans Association (MAVA) National was Established and Certified in 1997. It was organized to be a Veterans Service Organization for all Veterans of the United States Armed Forces regardless of religion, race, or gender.
The inspiration for establishing the Muslim American Veterans Association (MAVA) National came from the spirit of the “New World Patriotism” movement started by Imam W. Deen Mohammed as he asked Muslims to embrace the best of what America has to offer and to stand up as Muslim Americans and lay claim to our “Shared Freedom Space” as citizens of America.
This idea found a receptive heart and grew in the fertile minds of Dr. Christopher Bell Jr., a retired Air Force Major, former Army Captain Talib-Din Abdul-Wakil, and former Army Sergeant and Korean War POW Mujahid Mohammed, along with several other sincere sisters and brothers from Masjid Muhammad, Washington, D.C. These students of Imam W. Deen Mohammed founded the Muslim American Veterans Association (MAVA). They envisioned a Muslim Military Veterans organization that would become an Institution and developed to last for thousands of years.
The Muslim American Veterans Association (MAVA) National was established to be a National Organization with MAVA branches set up in States and Cities across the country. These posts would eventually add the name of a honored Muslim Veterans, and other deserving American Veterans, which would allow their name to be persevered in Muslim American history. A few examples are; Mava Post#1 Mujahid Mohammed, DC ; MAVA Post#2, Abdui -Azizi, Chicago, IL. MAVA Post #8, Los Angeles, CA. Imam Ali Rasheed. Imam Ali Rasheed served as a Captain in the United States Army in Korea where he won two Silver Stars. Ali Rasheed went on to join the Nation of Islam where he served under the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and later became Imam Ali Rasheed as a loyal student of Imam W. Deen Mohammed in Harlem, NY, at Masjid Malcolm Shabazz until he passed.

Muslim American Military Veterans honorably discharged may become members when they sign and submit the membership application and the required dues or fees.
American military veterans regardless of religious affiliation and discharge may become associate members when they sign and submit a membership application. Associate members cannot hold elective office or vote.
All persons, Muslim or non-Muslim, who sign and submit a membership appli-cation and choose to work within the association to foster its goals and objectives, shall become honorary members if selected as such by the Shurah Board. Honorary members cannot hold elective office or vote.
