Muse Black Holes And Revelations
Growing more dystopian by the album, Muse step into fighter mode on 2006’s Black Holes and Revelations , a nonstop cinematic thriller that seeks to set our minds free while setting the world ablaze. “Take a Bow” sets the apocalyptic scene with a simmering synth arpeggio that boils over into a forbidding rebel call: “You will burn in hell!” frontman Matt Bellamy bellows into the guitar-squiggling, techno-throbbing chaos. But the world can’t end without a stirring love story, and so he quickly slips into the role of romantic lead, aided by the hand-clapping rhythm of “Starlight” and the sexy funk groove of “Supermassive Black Hole.” One track later, on “Map of the Problematique,” the black hole comes to represent the terrifying void of loneliness, paced to the pulse of ‘90s Depeche Mode. That burning desire for human connection permeates the rest of this roaring epic, even through the militaristic march of “Invincible” and the System of a Down-inspired assault on “Assassin,” in which Bellamy orders for the destruction of “demonocracy.” By the album’s climax, all borders seemingly vanish, as the band weaves together Middle Eastern strings, mariachi trumpets, flamenco guitar, classical piano, and spaghetti-western twang in its closing trio of tracks. The Four Horsemen eventually arrive, galloping into the blistering finale, “Knights of Cydonia,” a “Bohemian Rhapsody” for our darkest of hours. Like the best sci-fi blockbusters, this album will have your heart racing up to the very last second.

It was not scratched or messed up when it arrived

This is the album that brought Muse into the masses. Believe the hype, "Black Holes and Revelations" is extraordinary from start to finish. "Take A Bow" is a political and angry juggernaut. "Starlight" is simply romantic. Contains a killer keyboard riff and flawless vocals courtesy of Matthew Bellamy. That falsetto of his STELLAR. "Supermassive Black Hole" is a thumping, sexy dance track with Prince-esque vocals. Easily a fan favorite. "Map of the Problematique" is a haunting track with dark synths. Reminds me of a Depeche Mode track. The short but sweet, "Soldier's Poem" and "Invincible" are beautiful and heartfelt ballads. Clearly shows a different side to the band. The great thing about this album is the variety. You get a little bit of everything: rock, pop, alternative, dance, electronica, etc. The tempo picks up again on "Assassin" (love those blistering guitars and chord changes) and "Exo-Politics" which my pick for BEST track. I could listen to that song 10 times in a row. "Exo-Politics" has this addicting chorus you can't get out of your head. "City of Delusion" is absolute perfection, and "Hoodoo" is another slower track but has a loud and fiery bridge that will blow you away. The final track, "Knights of Cydonia" was obviously influenced by Queen with the vocal harmonies and awesome guitar solo towards the end. Muse play this song a lot in concert. Amazing and powerful song. "Black Holes and Revelations" is the right place to start if you are at all interested in hearing this incredible band. Not one weak song in the bunch. No filler. I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Music over the past few years has gotten really weak, and at this point, Muse is one of the only bands who I look forward to new albums from. I was afraid of what it might contain once I heard Supermassive Black Hole, but thankfully that is the only song of that style on the CD. The CD Starts off where Absolution left off. Where Absolution was about the end of the world, and ends on a sad "let's face it" kind of note, Black Holes and Revelations starts off on a very strong build up that seems to say "let's fight back." I can always live without hearing politics in music, but Muse seems to do it in a much different way than I've heard before. Their music seems to express their points much better than other bands who just seem to scream out cliches like "bring down the government" and mindless things of that sort. Musically, this CD is of the same quality as their previous albums with a nice extra touch of a few new styles. City of delusion, and Hoodoo have strong spanish themes to them, which they pull off wonderfully. Supermassive Black Hole, Map of the Problematique, and even points of Take a Bow have a techno style which also seems to work for the band. A Soldier's Poem shows a soft yet powerful side of Muse with some background harmony that was just waiting to come out of Matt for years. Knights of Cydonia has the feel of a Zelda game until it's fantastically harmonized climax "No one's gonna take me a live." If you liked any of the previous three albums, you will like this one. Just don't go by Supermassive Black Hole as your reference of the CD. That one's just the result of Matt's DJ experience in NY - it gets much better. Grab a copy, this is easily the best album of the year, and it takes chances on top of that. What else can you ask for?

Ughhhhh this is such a good album. theres not a song i dislike and its really what got me into the band, along with Absolution. Exo Politics and Assassin are super underrated songs. Im very picky with my music and this is one of those albums that Im gonna keep close to my heart.

3 star rating for the vinyl. 5 star rating for the album. Vinyl: Delivery was fast. Item as described. However, there isone little defect, the center hole was a bit too tight, making it hard for me to place the vinyl on my turntable. The vinyl played perfectly fine however, no noise whatsoever. It's just that it's hard for me to place this vinyl on my turntable and then take it out. Album: What can i say.. Perfection. Not the best Muse album (that honor should go to either of the 2 albums that precedes Black Holes), but it is pretty close. It is in my opinion the best album of the 'new sounding' Muse with heavy use of electronic music. Many hated this album of the different direction that the band took. But i like how they mix rock with dance music. It's just so catchy. It is so different from their previous albums that it's like a new band playing all these songs. It's not a bad thing. Bands need to evolve. Muse did a very good job here. So many killer tracks here. My favs: - Knights of Cydonia - Starlight - Invincible - Supermassive Black Hole - Take a Bow

Love the music but should have been shipped in hard cover box versus bubble mailer. Corners were bent and creased. Lucky I guess the vinyl wasnt cracked.

MUSE is one of the best bands of all time. Period. Being a prog rock and rock fan of music, for me they are up there with Genesis (old Genesis), Rush and the Beatles. The genius of Matt Bellamy as a song writer, gifted pianist and guitarist continues to amaze me. Obviously, I own a lot of MUSE music. Prior to purchasing this CD/DVD combo I was already obsessed with BHAR and already owned 2 copies. What an accomplishment this album was for the band! But to include the Absolution concert DVD in with this purchase makes it my best MUSE purchase to date, excluding concert tickets of course. The Absolution DVD is a tough one to acquire if you live in the states like me. But at last I found it and did not hesitate to pay $70 for it. I had seen the Absolution concert on Muse's website (check it out muse.mu....it's bar none the best band website I have ever seen) and I knew I had to find it so I could blast it through the huge speakers in my living room. The version of Muscle Museum on this DVD alone makes the purchase worthwhile. Well done MUSE.

This is not a review on the album itself, but on the condition of the item.

First things first: I like the album (although is not my fav from the band), so this negative review is on the state of the item i received, not the quality of MUSE or their music. Since is a recurring problem with vinyls from MUSE, I had to report it. The packaging by Amazon and vinyl main cover arrived in perfect condition, not a bump or a scratch. So kudos to Amazon for that. However, after unpacking it and reaching for the vinyl, I noticed that the inner sleeve (the vinyl folder with artwork and lyrics) was tore on all the sides (it's like the vinyl itself cut through it). No big deal, I asked for a replacement. HOWEVER, the replacement too had the same issue. Funny enough, I had the same experience with Origin of Symmetry. Same exact issue. And the replacement showed the same damage. 6 vinyls out of 6 (as Origin of Symmetry has double disc). I really think MUSE vinyl factory should really check on the quality of their processes! I returned everything, as I want my collection to be in mint condition, and this damage is unacceptable. Therefore, only 1 star.

This album is Muse’s worst...

The album is all huff and puff, but will never blow the house down. The lack of decent lyrics is covered over by fancy guitar work and crashes and bangs. Soldiers Song is by far the worst Muse song on record, and the albums only saving grace is when they turn the lunacy up for Knights of Cydonia, actually a great song.

I'm 68. Quite frankly there is something about these young whipersnappers that appeals to my inner whatever. Not all their works are likeable. Sometimes just one on an album or just a few. But I like the kick they give.

Muse music in itself is fantastic, the vinyls they sell however are of appalling quality. The case and slip for the vinyl are damaged, and the vinyl itself is scratched an insane amount and skips constantly. Very very disappointed, will be opting for refund and not buying again. Sort it out

Fantastic album. Great cd.

Great band. Loads of superb songs on here. Good quality recording with crisp treble and a clear full bass. Good price and speedy delivery. I am very pleased! My daughters have fallen in love with it too!

If Muse sounded like a new band on Black Holes And Revelations it's because, after Glastonbury, they were: expanded of mind, settled of spirit and anything but sedentary of sound. Lyrical themes abound from apocalyptic soundbites to conspiracy theories to the idea that identity cards are the first sign of the onset of the end of the world. Black Holes and Revelations, marked the band's brightest, most dynamic set of material to date, topping the U.K. and European album charts within its first week and earning Muse their second consecutive number one album. In America, Black Holes and Revelations broke into the Top Ten.

Black Holes and Revelations is the fourth studio album by English rock band Muse. It draws its title from a line in “Starlight”, the second track on the album. Like the two previous albums, Black Holes and Revelations has political and science-fiction undertones, with lyrics covering topics as varied as love, political corruption, alien invasion, revolution and New World Order conspiracies.
