BDSM articles ideas bondage erotica resource
April 24, 2017 By Baadmaster 2 Comments
In our BDSM, kinky world, mummification refers to the complete immobilization of the bottom. Although, in this article, I will describe “saran wrap” mummification, technology has given us other tools for this type of play – most notably vacuum body bags. Although vacuum play renders the bottom immobile and is rather effective from a play point of view, the saran wrap variety is much more visual and gets more “wows” at a play party.
Saran wrap mummification is fun, easy and inexpensive. It places the bottom in a situation of powerlessness and sensory deprivation which allows him to float off, forget problems, and offer complete trust to the Top. The Top derives enjoyment and satisfaction from the sense of total control and from the pleasure he/she is giving the bottom. For saran wrap mummification you’ll need about 75 feet of this (avoid thinner brands that keep tearing as you work) and a few yards of duct tape (silver is OK, but red and black are flashier). You can get the big rolls – in many colors – from the U-Haul store and/or Home Depot.
A second Top is very handy for keeping the bottom from falling. This is the bottom’s greatest fear, and he/she must be reassured verbally as well as physically that this will not happen.
In this basic article, we will not discuss advanced elements such as using gags, catheters, or breathing tubes during mummification. The following precautions can be violated only if you are very experienced with measures necessary to ensure the safety of the bottom.
1. Have “safety scissors” on hand in case you must quickly cut the bottom out; note that this is not a quick operation. [Safety scissors, which have one blunt end, can be obtained at surgical supply or fetish stores.] 2. Leave both nasal and mouth passages open to assure no breathing problems. Since the submissive can’t move, check often to be sure the bottom does not begin to choke. 3. Be sure the bottom has urinated if the scene will be long. 4. Put some type of padding (such as cotton) between the bottom’s knees and ankles if they touch when his/her legs are together. Otherwise the tight bindings will eventually cause unwanted discomfort. 5. For longer scenes, offer water to the bottom periodically to prevent dehydration due to excessive sweating. Have towels ready when you unwrap him/her. 6. If he/she begins to panic, especially when in a head mask, comfort and reassure him/her as you quickly uncover his eyes and remove the mask. Having the bottom count slowly from 10 to 1 out loud may restore calmer breathing. Do not rush your mummification. Wrapping with saran wrap is a major event, not just a preliminary to a scene. It can easily take 30 minutes, and longer if you like, especially if accompanied by verbal commentary.
Instead of duct tape, you might do an upper body “overwrap” using colored wrap. You could also add rope decorations or make a rope harness. Use your ingenuity. But keep checking on the bottom for safety.
Another rather impressive way to wrap your mummy is in cloth — just like a real Egyptian mummy! Horse supply stores often carry “Standing Bandages,” which look much like ace bandages. A package of 4 rolls, each 12 feet long, costs less than $30 (you’ll need 2 packages). Get the 5.5-inch width if possible. Black is especially stunning.
Emergence, as it is called, is when you free the “mummy” from the wrapping. Be sure to maintain support when you unwrap him/her (or cut the submissive out with safety scissors), unless he/she is lying down. Unwrap slowly; too often the ending of a scene is not given the attention it deserves and requires. Have toweling ready to dry him/her, as the sub will likely be sweating profusely. Hold him/her, hug him/her and gently talk the submissive back to earth – much like any aftercare.
Mummification is not only makes for a great scene for both top and bottom, but is also a terrific crowd pleaser in public play. Although this article is far from a complete guide to mummification, if you are cautious and observant, you can have a great scene even on the first try!

The mummification position is an advanced bondage position that provides complete immobilization using plastic wrap, vet wrap, duct tape, or other materials, often in combination. For example you may use plastic wrap or pantyhose as a first layer to protect the skin and then add a layer of duct tape. In extreme cases plaster casting can be used.
This position allows for some variation depending on the preferences of the bound partner and what you want to do once they’re mummified. Leaving the breasts and/or genitals exposed is one typical variation.
This is an extreme form of bondage and comes with a high risk of the bound partner becoming claustrophobic or panicking. Start slow on a small part of the body. Be absolutely sure to have EMT sheers that you know will cut the material you’re using at hand. Better yet, have two or three pairs at the ready.
A person can be mummified for short or long periods of time. The practice can be used to provide complete sensory deprivation over the entire body, or some skin can be left unwrapped for added sensory play. There are many safety considerations to take before engaging in mummification. Always ask someone if they are claustrophobic or have any allergies to certain materials or adhesives being used before starting the mummification. The person being mummified needs to be positioned in a way that will support their body, as they usually won’t be able to keep balanced while wrapped. Circulation needs to be supervised, and it may be necessary to massage the skin through the wrap to maintain circulation. Keep safety shears nearby to quickly and easily remove wrappings. It is important to have a blanket and water ready once the wrappings are removed. The person who has been mummified will have sweat a lot during the mummification process which will leave them cold and potentially dehydrated when they are unwrapped.

Wrap the submissive in a warm blanket and give them water to drink. They may be slightly dehydrated following the mummification. Give them Lots of fruit and carbohydrate high foods to help bring their sugar levels back up. This will help to give them more energy after an emotionally exhausting experience.

If they need physical comfort, make sure you give them lots of time to be held within your embrace. If you can’t give your submissive the time to help calm down after an extreme experience you should never have put them in that extreme position in the first place.

If the submissive has long hair, then secure it out of the way. Wearing a spandex hood or cap with hair tucked inside can help to keep hair safely out of the way. After wrapping, the submissive will be laying flat so do not secure a ponytail on the back of the head.

It is a good idea to have the submissive use the bathroom before you start wrapping.

If you are wrapping the submissive in tape, wrap them with cling wrap first. Do not apply tape directly to the skin.

Never wrap someone while they are standing up unless you have someone who is helping. It is extremely easy for submissives to lose their balance and fall. With their arms wrapped up they will not be able to protect themselves if they do happen to fall.

It is not necessary to cover every inch of skin with cling wrap. Allowing some skin to show enables sexual play throughout the scene. Also allows you to monitor skin tone to see if there is any problems with circulation.

Check the wrapping material to ensure it does not contain toxic chemicals, and the submissive is not allergic to it. Always test all material first before doing a full mumification scene. Apply a small amount of material on the underside of the forearm for 1- 5 minutes. Remove the material and check for any skin changes. If you notice any skin changes or abnormailities do not use this material with the submissive.

If the submissive has a Latex allergy, do not use material that contains Latex.

Placing a cloth or cotton balls over eyes, nipples and other sensitive areas, can add extra protection if the wrap is cut off during the scene. With a small cut, less chance of hurting your partner and cloth/cottonball can be pulled out through hole, exposing the area of desire.

The submissive might be more comfortable with a sprinkling of powder before being wrapped. Be aware that some talc powders and cornstarch can be harmful if inhaled and while research is not conclusive could cause harm to the submissive's overall health. Cornstarch has been noted to dry out skin which can cause c rack ing making the submissive more suspetible to infection and harm from potential chemicals found in surrounding materials during mummification as well as out side of play. Remember your skin is your first line of defence against infectious diseases and chemicals, so treat it well. Try using a mixture of baking soda and arrowroot powder as an alternative. You will have to test to find a mixture that works best for you but an example could be a 4:1 ratio of arrowroot to baking soda. That is 2 cups of arrowroot to ½ a cup of baking soda.

It is helpful to use padding between the knees and ankles when wrapping the submissive. The tight binding can cause discomfort in those two areas.

When wrapped, submissives will sweat a lot, especially during longer scenes. Periodically offer the submissive water to prevent dehydration. Have some towels nearby when unwrapping the submissive.

If the submissive begins to panic, remove the head mask and reassure and comfort the person. Have the submissive slowly count backward from ten to one to calm the breathing. If the submissive uses the safe word, then quickly release the restraints.

Since mummification is an advanced form of bondage, there are safety issues to consider.

Never Leave The Submissive Unattended...EVER!

Once the mummification process begins, the dominant should NEVER leave the submissive until after the restraints have been removed. There are ways to evoke fear and the apprehension of being alone without actually leaving them. It only takes a split second for something to go wrong. The dominant partner should always keep an eye on the submissive partner.

When using restraints that do not allow for ventilation, make sure the submissive does not overheat. Cling wrap does not allow the body to release heat which may cause complications that can be life-threatening. Always keep water readily available and provide it regularly through your scene. If the submissive starts to overheat, remove the restraints and keep the submissive hydrated. Leaving open pockets in random areas can allow the skin to breath and give the Dominant skin to monitor for circulation issues.

Never participate in mummification while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Alcohol and drugs impair cognitive function which can cause people to agree to things they normally would never agree too. In BDSM that is not acceptable on the Dominant and the submissive’s part.

It also dulls senses and when you need your senses to fully understand what is happening and to determine if you are in danger or not. It should be obvious being under the influence while playing is a risk that can easily be avoided.

Lastly, You and your submissive will need to communicate throughout the scene therefore an altered state may hinder proper communication. When communication is of the utmost of importance anything that would hinder it should be removed.

If you would not drive under the influence, then it should be safe to say you should not take part in BDSM play while under the influence.
With each step deeper into your desires, new experiences can be found that will heighten the senses, ignite the body and electrify the mind. While
