Mulligan has a great location that you don't typically see: a golf driving range/mini golf course. And some wonderful shots of my hometown of Pittsburgh. The script is uneven, however, struggling to find the right tone and too often lurching into awkwardly scripted melodrama. It would have been wiser to contrast Jack's lost-ness after getting out of prison with a workplace that's more fun and upbeat. There are a couple throwaway scenes at the range that could have built audience goodwill but instead show employees behaving rudely to customers to no purpose - alienating this viewer. When all characters are ill-tempered or angsty it becomes monotonous. Though they are all solid actors, I didn't buy the interpersonal dynamics of Jack, his druggie buddy Shane (Klaus from Craig Quits His Day Job) and their love interest Mona. Where the movie missteps the most is by flashing back to the circumstances leading up to Jack's incarceration. It felt like the story was backpedaling to pretty cliched and mundane stuff - drinking and DUI's - when I wanted the narrative to move forward. (And when Jack gets pulled over apparently for speeding he seems to be going about 10 mph) Hazel Leroy as mature in years but menacing Pinky is the most intriguing character, almost something out of a David Lynch film. The closing montage and final shot are poetic, but too much of the movie feels stuck in the rough.

Mulligan is one of those shows that you're not sure what to expect, because it's never been done before. This isn't some light hearted ex-athlete returns home after an injury/retirement. This is a gritty look at a hometown boy, turned golf star who falls grace. After spending time in jail, he has to face the ghosts and demons of his past, along with those who got left in his dust as he skyrocketed to fame. Beautiful camera work, stunning scene structure, and emotional performances make this new comer worth your time. I look forward to seeing more of the Mulligan story, and I wish the entire cast and crew the very best in their endeavor.

Mulligan is fantastic! Great Story, Great Cinematography, Great Cast and Great Crew! It's worth the watch. It was filmed completely in Pittsburgh and uses all Pittsburgh crew. Can't wait to see Episode 2.

Pittsburgh is a great back drop for this story. I was really into the addiction story and by the end of the episode I was hooked.. but alas no episode 2?
