Mother-daughter duos in movies often have me reaching for the tissues, but it is these seven moments that make me ugly-cry and need to call my mom simultaneously. Granted, the first three minutes of this clip are a mother-son moment, but it's when Jackie has her time with Anna on Christmas that really gets you in the gut. But in terms of those special moments with my mom, and her disbelief at how fast the time had gone—that's all spot on.
Susan Sarandon really nails the mother-daughter movie relationships—even the contentious ones. For all of Adele's (Sarandon's) eccentricities and shortcomings, my heart silently broke for her when daughter Ann (Natalie Portman) mocks her in the movie audition. But when Adele sold her beloved car so that Ann could attend the college of her dreams on the East Coast, I teared up for totally different reasons.
Leave it to Disney to have us feeling all the feels: It wasn't the tapestry that needed fixing to break the curse that turned Merida's mother into a bear, it was their bond that needed to be repaired—and ultimately brought Elinor back to human life.
This movie gives us so many classic "Oh, mom" moments, but none were cuter than when Daphne (Diane Keaton) places a personal ad for her daughter Milly (Mandy Moore) and screens all the potential suitors. It's both mortifying and yet, incredibly sweet in its intentions (but not something I would suggest to all you moms of daughters out there).
She may only be their governess here, but Julie Andrews is always worth an exception—especially when she's offering teenage love advice in the form of melodic song. (These conversations went quite differently in my household.)
