Two brothers will spend the next 30 years in prison for the terrifying home invasion and rape of a mother and her 14-year-old daughter.
Two brothers will spend the next 30 years in prison for the terrifying home invasion and rape of a mother and her 14-year-old daughter.
Reggie and Deondre Bishop, 32 and 31 respectively, were two of the three men who broke into a home in Bryant Ave N, Minneapolis, at 11 p.m. on July 19, 2015, armed with guns and wearing white masks, according to a news release from Hennepin County Attorney's Office on Tuesday .
They then pulled the 14-year-old girl upstairs and shouted at her mother for money. After searching for it, they proceeded to rape the mother and her daughter, before leaving with televisions, a laptop and cellphones.
Speaking to the court on Monday, the mother gave an impact statement, in which she noted that Reggie Bishop had "laughed and joked" his way through the court case.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office told BringMeTheNews that Bishop also didn't take the sentencing seriously, to the extent that District Judge Jay Quam had to ask him if he was paying attention.
"He'll have [at least] 7,300 days to laugh his way through prison," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced in a press statement . "He’ll have to explain to his children why he’s in prison."
According to the criminal complaint, the mother and daughter were tied up with pillow cases placed over their heads, and threatened with torture if they didn't say "where the money was."
They were then brought upstairs where they were sexually assaulted, with the mother able to see her daughter being assaulted, at one point with a gun being pointed at her head.
During the impact statement, the victim said it took her daughter "several months" before she could describe what she went through.
"How does a grown man torture and rape a 14-year-old girl?" she asked the court. "How do you say ‘Now you know what the bad guys look like…’ Twenty years is not long enough. Every single day, I hope he hates himself."
The Bishops joined 32-year-old Roynell Taylor in being sentenced to 30 years in prison for the crime.
They were each convicted of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of first-degree burglary.
The shooting broke one of Burrito Loco's windows and damaged two nearby apartments.
Ward 3 councilor Michael Rainville has made several appearances this week condemning the events of July 4th.
Citing his mental health, Mendes will postpone three weeks of his tour.
Police say the incident happened just south of downtown Minneapolis early Saturday.
It comes after Minnesota laws surrounding THC products loosened.
Two Rochester men have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
One suspect arrested this week told police he'd fired shots with his family on Fourth of July.
Metro Transit is calling it the "largest construction project" ever in the line's history.
According to the man's Facebook page, he leaves behind a young daughter.
"We need this reporting," the union said.
The crash happened last week near North Branch Township.
The secluded property offers 1,400 feet of private lake frontage.
An Otter Tail County woman was arrested for allegedly pointing a shotgun at her daughter during an argument. The daughter claims her mother said she would shoot if the daughter didn't leave.
The Lakeville mother who hid her two teenage daughters from their father on a farm in west-central Minnesota has been sentenced to jail time.
He fathered two children by one of his daughters.
The non-custodial mother broke into her daughter's home.
He's expected to spend 20 years in prison.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.

"It's unfathomable on so many levels. For one, that it actually happened. For two, where it happened. For three, how often something happened," the mother said in an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News.
The woman, who asked to be identified only as Jane Doe, said her 5-year-old daughter was caught by a teacher inside a bathroom at school giving oral sex to a 4-year-old boy.
"I said, 'Where did you see this? How did you know that this was something to do? 'She said, 'I saw another little girl do it.' I said, 'Well, where?' 'Here at school.' 'When?' 'During nap time,'" the mother recalled.
Jane said investigators found no evidence of child abuse at her home. She provided us documents from the County of Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services showing the case was closed as inconclusive.
The First Lutheran Church of Carson School was cited by the California Department of Social Services for a sexual incident between kids. Jane's daughter said it wasn't an isolated incident.
"The way that she explained it, it was kind of like it was an everyday thing...from pulling the pants down to exposing themselves to, you know, trying to get somebody to put their mouth on the privates," said Jane.
Eyewitness News first broke this story on Friday when Richard McCarthy told us exclusively that his son often received oral sex at the school.
"It went down in the classroom, it went down in the bathroom, and it went down out on the playground," said McCarthy.
After seeing that story, attorney Greg Owens said more people started asking to join his lawsuit against the school and the church, so he is no longer planning to file it Monday. He is going to wait.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Carson Station says the story is prompting it to ask questions of various state agencies to see if any crimes were committed.
The school itself is set to close on Friday. School officials still haven't gone on camera, but told me off camera that they believe there were only two incidents involving inappropriate touching among the kids.
They said the school is closing because the director is leaving for personal reasons and no teacher wants the job. They insist student sex has nothing to do with the closure.
"I think they definitely tried to cover up the incidents," said Jane.
Jane pulled her daughter out of the school in October. She said her daughter is in public school now and doing better. As for Jane, the reality is still tough.
"As a mother, I tend to blame myself, thinking what if I had just asked the question, what if I could have found out somehow that this is going on," she said.
