So here's a nice pic of my Mk9 Mileena Cosplay! I havent gotten to shoot this properly yet. Hopefully I can soon, I am at the mercy of the kindness of photographers lol.

**About this cosplay**

This was such a battle! I wanted to portray Mileena in her iconic (and notoriously revealing) MK9 costume. I personally believe this was her best incarnation in the series. Her costume has a glorious ninja/ kunoichi-like design that mimics that of scorpion and sub zero but has it's own distinct personality, tailored to Mileena. I love that Mileena is unapologetic, vicious, evil, demented, sexy, scary, ruthless and unafraid to flaunt her body, flirt with people and show her ugly face. I love it.

I wanted to create the costume as true to the original design as possible, only making it a bit wider (and thus, slightly more covering) in certain parts as a means of making the suit flatter my body shape, as you would do with any costume. I also wanted to make a clear statement against those who claim that her costume is impossible or impractical to make or wear. With dedication, creativity and planning, it is more than possible to make her costume as it is designed and no extra fashion tape or whatever is needed to ensure it can stay up. The costume design is actually practical and Very comfortable to wear and move around in. I was able to run, kick and mimic fighting moves around the convention and during performance perfectly, even while wearing the heels. I wore a skin tone tights with the suit, combined with the nearly full face prosthetic, it was surprisingly a very warm costume to wear, and at times I felt a bit miserable in the heat but it was worth it!

While I was making this costume, I thought to myself that I did not need to focus on being the sexy mileena, since her costume does that already, instead, I wanted to craft a total, nasty monster. I wanted to capture her vicious nature and portray her as the frightening villainess we all love. I made everything on the costume including the sais, wig, prosthetic, and Kitana's head. I sculpted and cast both the prosthetic and the mask shell which covers my face. I cant really think of any part of this costume that I did not make from basics, save for the contact lenses. Since the costume was meant for competition, I wanted to come out as strong and as mortal kombat gruesome as I could, and thus, chose to walk on stage with a dead Kitana's bleeding head in my hand. I was portraying mileena, arguably the poster girl for the MK series, so I felt like I had to represent not only her character, but the gore nature of the game as well. I held that head triumphantly by the hair of the wig. I did it on stage and while walking around the events I wore her to. I truly believed that a mortal kombat character, ESPECIALLY mileena, should look like he/she is from mortal kombat, so I bathed myself in fake blood and took the time to apply gross looking wounds and gashes about my body (and on my boob, to deter people from getting too much joy staring at them lol). I truly wanted mileena to look as wicked as possible. I love portraying mean ass female characters! It's because in real life i'm such a soft-hearted push over 

**Final thoughts**

This costume won me second place in two different competitions in both Trinidad and Barbados! I am very proud of it, it was very difficult to make and yes, looking back there are ways that I'd make it different, better. The hardest part was the suit, which does not stretch so that I was able to craft a double padded built in bra that did not need extra straps to stay in place and would push my not so ample boobs to the side to make them look bigger lol. I really made a lot of great memories in the year it took me to craft this costume! Most of it was in the frustration of making lots of mistakes, having to do over things multiple times and even remake parts of the costume. Indeed, I think this is my favourite cosplay. Hope you guys like it too!
