I get asked a lot if I talk to my daughter about my cycle. To which I respond - of course. World schooling means she’s apart of everything with me. I try to explain things to her and how things are in the world in a way she will understand (age sensitive), and draw her own conclusions. She understands when there’s a period there’s no baby, that its tracked by the moon, that when I’m bleeding I’m more sensitive and need to go slower and I bring her into that ritual as I lean into it more. She asks to look, touch and even smell it , it can be so confronting!! This started when I was free bleeding on the earth building our garden together. It just feels completely natural to me and I want to raise her so that when it’s her time it doesn’t feel like she’s starting from scratch like I and many women in the West do.

Bleeding and raising babies is huge especially when you’re still breast feeding. It brings up soooo much. I’ve never had as much respect for my cycle and it’s wisdom as I do now post-birthing. Even acknowledging that and how we talk about it in the house is so important. Their little ears are listening and understanding all of the time, even to the things we’re still healing through.

For any mamas wondering when or how to talk to their littles (not just girls!) about their cycle, I trust you’ll know when it’s time. My only advice is - follow your instincts ♥️🩸
