Monday morning is the most important time for passengers. But it was at this time that Vivi's trains failed again. According to official data, two morning flights to Riga were completely canceled, and four more were delayed from 10 to 15 minutes. Two routes were replaced by diesel trains due to technical problems with electric trains.
This is a blow to people who travel to the capital for work, school, and business. At 7 a.m., there is no time for experiments and substitutions — predictability is needed. But the new pride of Latvian railways, Vivi, failed again.
The problem with Czech electric trains no longer surprises anyone. They are capricious, not adapted to the Latvian climate, and the infrastructure is not prepared for them — the contact network and platforms.
The deal to purchase them in 2019 for almost 250 million euros should have been a matter of pride, but it became a subject of ridicule. And it deserves the close attention of the prosecutor's office, which, unfortunately, has not yet been paid to it.
Vivi electric trains are one of the most striking examples of the complete degradation of Latvian public administration. And over the past 7 years, the situation has only changed for the worse.
