Through platforms like TikTok, people have discovered new ways of connecting and coming together to dance , sing, act, and even learn how to do at-home DIY haircuts for trendy hairdos.
This TikTok video shared by a mom (on the handle The Hands-On Family ), claims an old-school haircut trick that supposedly results in perfect bangs. The mom films the trick on TikTok, as she cuts her daughter's hair to the tune of, "I'm a Survivor," Reba McEntire's song, which recently became a hilarious sound on TikTok, according to Newsweek .
In the video clip, the mom first places a clear tape over her daughter’s fringes to secure them, then trims them as desired. The idea is that the tape holds the hair still as she trims it, and allows her to get a much squarer haircut. After gently taking the tape off the hair, the mom commented that her daughter was not hurt and that the daughter thought the trick was funny.
This old-school hack has attracted over 11 million views and more than 400,000 likes, with some viewers suggesting tips on how to improve the trick. The popular suggestion was that a person can lower the clear tape and use the top as a cutting guide, making sure to stick the tape in a straight line.
The clip may have impressed many as a new hack, but some have been doing the trick for years as the comments suggested. One viewer mentioned that her mom used the same hack to cut her bangs 30 years ago. This effective haircut trick comes as the newest in a long line of hacks and tips TikTok users give on cutting bangs at home. All this is thanks to the pandemic .
In the previous year, 2020, TikTokers curled bangs before trimming to create a more natural and messier look, but for most, it just did not look right. As the old-fashioned curtain bangs have recently become trendy, so have the DIY tries at home. But before parents butcher their children’s hair in lockdown, they may want to check out this TikTok mom’s simple old-school hack. The best part is the fact that the cut hair gets glued to the tape, meaning there is no mess to clean up after that.
