IUGR Baby And Mommy’s Instinct An Amazing Story
Here, I am sharing an amazing Mommy’s Instinct true Story who, was pregnant with an IUGR baby.
I was in the 36th week of my pregnancy.
My doctor told me that my baby is IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction). It refers to a condition in which an unborn baby is smaller than it should be because it is not growing at a normal rate inside the womb.
For me, it meant as soon I will hit the 37th week, I have to deliver. I was expecting my delivery at 39-40 weeks, which was at least two weeks from now.
As per my online research, the first baby has a 15 to 16 percent chance of being born late.
My gynecologist suggested to me Vaginal delivery. She said the baby is small in size. So, going for vaginal delivery will not be a problem.
I was reluctant to accept her advice. The feeling that vaginal delivery would be risky for my baby was so strong that I instantly and adamantly decided to go for a c-section.
I told her I want to get it operated. She said, “Are you insane”?
“Why on earth would anyone do something like that with a baby size so small? “
We will induce you, and the vaginal delivery will be the best option. I went for an ultrasound and found the baby is tiny, as told by the gynecologist, and has a loose knot around the neck.
My doctor had to agree for operation.
Finally, at my 37th week and 2 days old pregnancy, I was operated for c- section.
During operation, I wanted to have every detail of my c- section operation. So, I wasn’t relaxing. I was keeping my mind active to capture every iota of the things happening there.
I heard doctors saying true knot I didn’t know the meaning of this term then.
But with this word, I could vaguely understand maybe it is a knot of umbilical cord around my baby’s neck that was tight.
Later on, when I got to check it on the internet, I found a knot in a baby’s umbilical cord is called a true knot of the umbilical cord.
Babies that are relatively small in size have a high chance of getting entangled in the umbilical cord.
The True knots get more dangerous closer a baby gets to birth, and in a worst-case scenario, can cause asphyxia, leading to brain damage or death. Tight knots have a mortality rate of 10%’.
I felt Vaginal delivery would be risky for my baby.
There was something outright within my heart that dissuaded me.
Despite a highly qualified and experienced doctor insisted. Maybe I had sensed that they are underestimating the prospect of uncertainty in the vaginal delivery.
When I came to know, it was a true knot of the umbilical cord. I felt I was right.
I was glad I was adamant.
Somehow the idea of tolerating labor pains and not knowing what is happening to my baby during delivery was not convincing.
I felt I am risking my baby’s life. I wanted it to be smooth for my baby, and I am glad about the decision I took.
Sometimes, I feel a mother’s instinct is above all educational degrees and experiences we have.
People may call it stubbornness or foolishness, but it turns out as the right choice for you and your baby.
I feel maternal instinct is before anything else that makes you mom.
It comes before you even see or hold your bundle of joy in real.
Mommy’s instinct makes you do things best for your child’s needs.
The first thing a mom perceives for her child is always so strong.
It is above any scientific logic and immutably lets you do great things for your child.
Your every step makes you do for the welfare of your child.

I had an emergency C-section because the cord had wrapped around Flora’s neck and she would have probably died if I’d given birth naturally. I think this is more common than people realise – thank you for sharing.
Yes Lisa you are right many a times People underestimate the gravity of serious things. Thanks for reading and sharing your views.
Priyanka, I don’t have words to express..all mothers have different experience.Hope all went good. Keep writing.
What a story! I’m glad you went with your instinct! And I thought I had a complicated pregnancy. I had HG in the beginning. Then Placenta Previa. Then Thyroid issues. Then GD. Then Pubis symphysis. The Pelvic pain was unbearable at times to the point where I couldn’t walk, get up, etc. I had to get the nurse to assist me each time because I couldn’t get up or get on the bed even after birth. LOL!
Thank You so much Maria, for stopping by to read and share your experience here.
What a cool post! This gives the saying “mother knows best” a new meaning.
