And Tango Makes Three (Classic Board Books)

Review, Mothering Magazine: Mommy, Mama, and Me depicts the gentle, nurturing relationship of a lesbian couple and their little one. In this sweet board book, the flowing lines and warm palette of Carol Thompson’s mixed media illustrations work in concert with Lesléa Newman’s rhythmic text. Also, see this book’s gay-fathers counterpart, Daddy, Papa, and Me, by the same creators.

* Shares the loving bond between same-sex parents and their children. * Perfect baby shower gift for expecting same-sex couples. * Great selection for gay pride table/display.

A good book for 2 mom families. It's simply a "me and Mommy do this and me and Mama do that" style book. No mention of diversity, no explanation of sexuality or difference. Simply a kid, their parents, their day and their love. Great for all young ages. Would recommend. **If you found my review informative or helpful in any way please click HELPFUL. Thank you! I bought this book for my daughter to instill a sense of acceptance from an early age. I am a woman married to a man and know my daughter is going to see many examples of that kind of family being celebrated and set as the acceptable norm. So it very important that she sees many types of loving families. She can't understand gay and lesbian rights and homophobia, as she is 5 months and no one has taught her hate. But she likes the pictures and likes that I tell her that the baby in the book does some the same things she does. I hug her and tell her that the 2 mommies love the baby like we love her. She doesn't comprehend all of this, but I think compassion and acceptance need to be instilled even before comprehension. We also have Daddy, Papa and Me by Leslea Newman. I like how the gender of the child is unknown. It says the books are for ages 4-8, but my baby likes them.

My 2 year old son LOVES this book. As soon as we took it out of the amazon package, he yelled with joy “mama!!! Mommy!!”. He was so happy and it made me happy to see him happy. He immediately grabbed and brought it to me to read to him. I’m sure he felt how excited I was as he sat in my lap. He pointed to the pictures and kept saying mama and mommy. It made my heart melt. He even looked up and kissed me as I was reading. We could tell he understood in a sense. That he knew. He could relate. He loved it. We love it. We HIGHLY recommend. We are two moms and interracial couple. This book is perfect. The book is simple. Easy to understand. It will be helpful for all types of families to understand that love makes a family... it doesn’t have to be traditional mom and dad for love to exist. Ugh I can’t wait to read it again!! Thank you.

My wife and I are expecting a baby early next year so I've been looking to build a small collection of things for the baby, one of them being books. This is such a nice addition for learning about family and all the different ways they can be created and how they do things together. So happy I made this purchase!

Wonderful book for kids with two moms. Our two yr old wants us to read it over and over. The negative reviews are mostly homophobic or those who thought this book was about multiple names to call the same mom.

This book is really cute and well-written. The rhymes are sweet and not tongue twisters. It's great for any type of family--the normalcy of having loving parents who help one another and have specific roles they fill as well. I like showing that diversity exists in families and people. If you want that or just a cute board book, this is a new favorite of mine. (Baby is 5 mo old)

So happy we found this book for our 1-year old. All the baby/kids books we have are targeted towards straight families. Such a relief to have a book that’s the perfect image of our family. Plus she loves it!

Love this book! There should be more like it. I read it to my daughter every night and she enjoys it. The illustrations are cute and reflects so much on our family, that it’s pretty amazing to be able to read this to our daughter to show her there are other families just like us!

I wish there were more books like this on the market!

There should be more books like these. Perfect little book to show your little ones. It does teach them about diversity as it shows that some families have 2 moms and they function just like any other family. It is great for children who have 2 moms and all other children as well. For a child with 2 moms it will help them portray themselves and identify their family environment as being conventional. The child in the book could be of either gender which is also really good as you can adapt to both scenarios. It is also great that the moms are not portrayed as the lesbian stereotype, which quite frankly, shouldn't exist. It is a book about a family, 2 moms and a little one who do every day family things. Very helpful, heart warming and brings you to the normality of an every day family environment.

It's a very good idea as there are not many books like this ...

It's a very good idea as there are not many books like this about although I am not impressed by the size of the book and how little there is in it! Extortionate price for a book so small with only a few words here and there!

Being a 2 mum family, we wanted to get this book for our daughter and she absolutely loves it. She wants us to read it to her every night, it’s very simple but colourful and sweet

A must have for any Mommy and Mama

We read this to our baby everynight. She now follows along with the book and acts out the pages. Its a lovely and sweet book for your baby library. Our nursery happened to get it, not knowing we already had a copy and our baby picks it up and has someone read it to her everyday. I've also recomended this book to other new Mommy and Mama couples.

Nice for child to relate to

Lovely book and nice to have something our child will be able to relate to. Would be good for any child though to teach them about different family types.

What a treat: a warm and adorably illustrated board book about a loving family which just happens to have two mums in it.
Throughout, the font is clear and bold and all of the colours are rich and striking. Carol Thompson's illustrations are full of exuberance. You can almost feel the giddiness of Mommy on the merry-go-round or the whoosh of Mama and the child as they shoot down the slide.
Although the book uses the American "Mommy", that shouldn't be a problem, as mums may use different names to differentiate than "Mommy" and "Mama", anyway. Everything else has a fun, upbeat universality to it: the packing of lunches, the trip to the playground, the baking of cakes and the end-of-the-day bath.
In fact, the gentle rhythm of the words and unfolding of routine would make this an excellent bedtime book – and, handily, it all ends up on a goodnight kiss.
Note: There is also a version with two dads.
It's so important that little ones grow up and see their type of family set-up reflected in the books you share with them. Here's a list of our favourite children's books that show – and celebrate – diverse families. Perfect for babies all the way up to aged five.
Author: Susan Meyers Illustrator: Marla Frazee
This gorgeous board book follows all sorts of babies – 'small babies, tall babies, winter and spring babies' – over the course of a year. It's a true celebration of babies and the joy and giggles they bring – and also highlights the diversity of everyday family life.
Author: Tessa Strickland and Kate DePalma Illustrator: Christiane Engel
